View Full Version : Dan from Hoboken update

I recall r&f and O&A bringing up before that you wondered where the old caller Dan from Hoboken went. Well I was listening to Bill Simmons' (ESPN.com) podcast/radio show this week and he read an email from someone named "Dan from Hoboken."
I dont recall which podcast it was but it was either the 2/5 or 2/9 one.
I did some more research and found this:
Q: I work for a small firm in New York City and the topic of Isiah Thomas came up one day at work. We decided that the equivalent of the job he has done with the Knicks in the real world would look something like this: A CEO in a company declaring bankruptcy after four consecutive terrible years, but if he also harassed a female employee (leading to an eight-figure settlement) and had his other employees booing him and yelling at him to resign throughout the day at work for two or three straight months. Does that seem fair?
-- Dan, Hoboken, N.J.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/071214
Does that sound like him? Or is that one of the many other Dan's there that enjoy interacting with radio shows.

Breaking news: Hoboken is a pretty big city in NJ, and there's the potential for more than one Dan to live in that geographical area.
Dan exists, but you're stretching it. And no, that's doesn't sound like Dan's writing. Our Dan is a little more witty than that.

Some people have pushed it aside as a myth...

I heard the Dan from Hoboken reference on the podcast and thought for a brief moment thought that somewhere, on the other end of that email, was our favorite old school caller. But it was probably someone else.

It was someone that goes by the exact same tag when they email (most emailers do not put their location when sending email to Simmons) and likes to contribute to radio shows he listens to. Also only 39,000 people live in bum fuck Hoboken so saying it is a "pretty big city" is moronic.
Thus it was far from stretching it.

Well, you attention seeking ass, his podcasts are featured as a apart of Sirius-XM's ESPN programing.
The guy had Obama scheduled to come on his show before ESPN canceled it.
Also I asked if it was him. I didnt "stretch it."

I thought I remember hearing Dan moved to New York State somewhere a while back. I could be wrong but then it wouldn't be him.
Did he like sports?

Every single person lists his or her city when the email Simmons. And saying "Dan from Hoboken" is just a natural extension.
Although I do giggle when you call Hoboken "bum fuck". the 40k census number is right, but I assure you, you look more stupid when you call Hoboken "bum fuck".
I also did you a favor and edited your response, because you fucking posted the same thing twice in the same post.

The worst part about this thread is, I edited my initial response to sound less harsh, and he still got offended, like it's IMPOSSIBLE for a guy named Dan to live in Hoboken and like sports and be "our" Dan from Hoboken.
Dan keeps a pretty low profile. He hardly posts HERE... why would he appeal to Simmons?

Mike, you're obviously getting upset, so here's some visual clues to help you out...
This is a view from Hoboken. Granted, it's a little dated, but I'm hoping this will give you a better feel about the "bum fuck" nature of Hoboken:
http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/5240935.jpg
Y'see, Hoboken has had a population explosion in the last 10 years because it's where most yuppies who work in NYC live. Also, some people who live in nearby Jersey City will say they live in Hoboken because of the status seeking nature of Yuppies.
I hope this helps.

I don't care what the view is...39,000 people is bum fuck and certianly not a pretty big city.
But I can see why you got upset to begin with, I mentioned the idea of someone emailing Bill Simmons. More than enough reason for you to get upset and try to belittle a 'possibility' (and everything associated with including the assumption that something would be viewed in some lights as a radio show) that I put forward.

But you should know that Hoboken is the size of one mile, squared.
Therefore, you don't know what you're talking about.

In addition, as seen here (http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Bumfuck) and here, (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bum-fuck+egypt) the generally accepted meaning of "bum fuck" is that the town/city is out in the middle of nowhere. As someone who grew up in a "bum fuck" town and lived in NYC and in Jersey City, I think I can say that Hoboken, which is right across the Hudson River from Manhattan, is not a "bum fuck" city.

Dan posts here as "Dan". (Previously Dan From Hoboken, but he changed his name)
And I believe it was mentioned upthread, but I think he left Hoboken awhile ago. I know he got married, as mentioned here as well.
The point is, there's a very good possibility for more than one Dan in Hoboken, just not our Dan.

Actually, it's usually "bumblefuck" in my experience, but I'm not getting into a big thing over semantics in this case.
Besides, "bum fuck" is a lot more queer than "bumblefuck" and, in case you haven't noticed, this thread went from on-topic to queer in just about 2 pages.

Me, too. I met him at the Halloween Bar Crawl in 2001 and everyone was leaving the bar to go to the next location, but Pootertoot and I [both underage, hot!] (and I believe TomPoo) had just gotten our drinks and he stayed behind saying, "you never leave a man behind". I think I even did a jello shot that came in an oversize plastic syringe with him, too. We were even able to get into the next bar even though they were carding. I dunno that Dan had anything to do with that, but I will always think of him fondly.
