So yesterday, my fridge gave up the ghost. It was the oddest thing. Every minute or so for 10 seconds, I kept hearing what sounded like an aerosol can. And then I smelled burning plastic. I pulled the fridge away from the wall and the compressor was hot to the touch so I unplugged it.
They are delivering the new fridge on Saturday. Can I "get by" by unplugging and replugging it to save what's in the freezer? Some ice melted a bit and the veggies are done, but the frozen food is still pretty solid.

I think you should rely upon restaurants and delivery for Thursday and Friday's meals. Or lots of canned foods. While it's probably fine for you to try the plug/unplug thing, I would personally be very nervous that all that plug and unplugging might start an electrical fire.
Also the idea of frozen food kinda not being properly frozen grodifies me to no end.

Don't take chances with a fire. Have yourself a frozen food feast today, and toss the rest.

get coolers and ice and put all the freezer stuff in there. open them as infrequently as possible, keep them outside on a balcony if you can

I'll just eat like 5 Lean Cuisines tonight for dinner. I knew I was kidding myself. It's just the $700 I spent today is bad enough. The loss of food KILLS me. Well, I'm glad I didn't have steaks or something really expensive in the freezer.
Hey, at least I helped the economy, right? SIGH.......

If you want the freezer and not the fridge compressor you could always cut the wires to the compressor. But if you're not comfortable doing that, just unplug it and leave it.
I would say you should tape or wire nut the loose wire ends as well but if any of this isn't comfortable to you just unplug it and leave it.

Best advice. Do not plug it in because then you risk having a fire. Depending on the temp the meat and stuff should fare well in the freezer. You can buy Ice and use the freezer as a cooler.

I just gave up and I'm in the process of throwing everything out.
The compressor still smells like burning wire/plastic. It took less than a minute for it to get hot to the touch when I plugged in the fridge. $100 worth of food vs. a fire.
At least I found the back of my phone. I was covering it with a business card and tape until now. And I found a bunch of cat toys so it's win-win all around. Plus, I have 0 APR for a year. Hopefully it will be paid off by then.

Maybe leave the old fridge outside and with any luck, those bastard neighbors of yours will get stuck inside!

Awww! Thanks! I live on the third floor and it will only cost me $10 for Sear's to take it away.
But I like your idea! Very much. I only wish I knew someone in Waste Management. It would be PERFECT.

When you get rid of the old fridge, make sure Henry takes the door off before the snow storm
