Looks like 49 people are dead. Aircraft identified as a Continental Airlines flight crashed into a house in Clarence Center shortly after 10 p.m. Flight 3407 from Newark.

Television reports said the crash site was 6050 Long St., not far from the Clarence Center Fire Hall on Clarence Center Road.

All Buffaloians check in.

That city needs a break.

I am fine. My friend lives two houses down from the house that was destroyed.

His wife and kids are okay but it took about an hour to get through to him.

I know quite a few people from Clarence. I hope none of them or any of their loved ones are affected by this.

Terrible news.

God, shit like this really gets to me. I lost my father in a plane crash over 20 years ago. I feel so terrible for all those people who lost family and friends in this tragic event.

I really hate all the speculation that happens with stories like this. On a local station here, they had a pilot call in and ask, "what do you think caused this crash?". Its just stupid.

Sorry to hear that Weeka.

I couldn't believe planes were taking off and landing at newark today. They were forced to make a sharp right turn on approach to hit the shorter runway due to extreme crosswinds. While driving north on the turnpike today I saw the "welcome to carteret" billboard go flying through the air.

Glad to hear everyone here is okay, on the news this morning I saw a guy who looked like you TC talking about his family. I'm glad I was mistaken.

The news have found their big angle for this crash: one of the victims lost her husband at WTC on 9/11.

Found out about the crash just before I went to bed last night, but didn't see the aftermath until this morning. Glad to hear your friends are OK, tc.

I'm surprised they didn't have some jackass reassure the public that it wasn't terrorism-related.

Glad you're OK toiletcrusher...and your friends as well.

Local exchange:

Expert because there's a mike in front of him: "Well, obviously it was the wind."

Weather guy: "Well, actually the winds had died down by that point."

E.B.T.A.M.I.F.O.H.: "Oh. Well, then... Ice! Definitely ice!"

I hate when the news outlets start grasping at straws. It's already a story, how about ya just report what you DO know and stop looking for ways to fill the airtime.

I'll never forget... after the space shuttle COLUMBIA disaster, one of the networks actually had the fucking retarded balls to go up to Ben Affleck (at a movie premiere or some shit) for his "insight" on "this terrible tragedy" BECAUSE HE PLAYED A SHUTTLE PILOT IN ARMAGEDDON!
He was speechless. "Yeah, ummm... I spent some time on the COLUMBIA when I was researching Armageddon... and... umm.... the guys who really pilot those things are heroes and scholars... and umm.. this is a tragedy indeed...."

I like Ben Affleck well enough. Nothing against him personally.
But some newsie actually thought that THIS was a great angle. "I know! We'll harrass a guy who played an oil driller turned NASA pilot!"

Shit.
Sorry about the rant folks but, people without taste, class, or common sense really bug me.

Technically, AJ wasn't a pilot, he was a specialist. Will Fitchener and some chick who had some heat in the late 90's were the pilots. The pilots on AJ's shuttle died when they crashed on the asteroid, leaving AJ and a few others.

holy shit
cant tell you how terrified i was. i just flew home continental yesterday from europe, which the flight path arcs over upstate ny.
i got this email when i turned my phone on this morning. my coworkers are due to arrive today via the same flight path, also via continental, arriving at newark at around 11:15 am.

thinking back on it now, all that is coincidental is the airline, but still.

also. i never want to experience what i did yesterday trying to land at newark in that wind again.

QFT. They said delays at Newark were upwards of 5+ hours yesterday. We caught a crosswind on final approach flying into PHX on our last trip - the plane tilted and it was one of the few times I ever freaked out on a plane because I knew in the back of my head we were too close to the ground that an overcorrection would be bad news.

My condolences to the families of those who perished.

This was one of the flights I looked at taking to come up and visit my chick. I was going to make it a long weekend, due to being off on monday. Glad I didn't take it now.....

Thoughts and prayers to those lost. Glad your friends are ok, tc.

you have no clue.
i would re-do the 8 hours and 4k miles again if i didnt have to do the last 80 miles / 30 min of flight.

we had 4 yakers on the plane cause of the turbulence.

Yep, I'm still here. Thanks for thinking of me, Friday.

Nowhere near me. Wall-to-wall tv & radio coverage here- pre-empted Grey's last night- the wife is a lil' bent.

Fire is still burning- they think a gas line in the house is fueling the fire, or a pool of fuel in the basement.

Current count is 49- 44 passengers, 4 crew and 1 on the ground.
