Depends on how much work he has to do. $5-$10 is normal for me.

Two guys usually deliver a fridge. I would spot em a 10 each.

Bingo.
$20 bucks is fine, whether there are 2 or 3 of them.

Be sure to leave the old fridge on the curb. WITH the door on, so kids can play hide and seek.

I'd make em a nice meal if you have any non-spoiled food left.

$20 and a bottle of water each. That's my rule.

why do we tip some people just for doing their jobs?
If they take your old fridge out for you, then yes tip them. Otherwise, I would not offer additional compensation.

So I guess if the busboy doesn't clean your table at a restaurant before you get the check, you don't tip the waitress?
Cheap ass Western NYer!
They probably don't really make much at all delivering all that stuff...and even if you are cool to them, just think about what a bunch of assholes there are out there that won't treat them kindly at all. That's my thought process anyway.

the food service industry is different in my eyes. Their wages are lower because they count on getting tips. That is a given, I tip at restaurants.
About 5 years ago a friend of mine delivered for circuit city. He made almost 13/hr. I think that's fairly good.
But, do you give a tip after an oil change?

An oil change is every 3 months or so...
Are you getting a new fridge every 3 months?

For something that major, definitely. I usually do $5-$10 each depending on the job plus a drink each.

You definitely should tip. $5-10 per guy. Unless they're asses, then give 'em $1 each.

Drinks are definitely good, and considering your money situation, 10 bucks a head is fine. I would definitely give them 10 bucks a head and a bottle of soda or gatorade or something. When we had our furniture delivered, Liz reported that the delivery guys were more interested in the drinks than the cash.
EDIT: Are they taking out your old fridge with them?

<font color="deeppink"> i would only tip them if they were hot and entertaining...if they were id tip each a $10 and off then a drink or a protein shake or some eggs bc thats all i really have in my kitchen....but if they werent i would give them a tip to do it shirtless next time....bc lets face my jeep can haul it and i could have nekkid friends do it for free (coincidentally im sure my brothers would also be happy to deliver it nekkid as well)

I went back and visited my furniture thread. Missy summed it up best - at most, they are doing a half-hour's worth of work, and they already make a salary plus benefits. Why spend the money you don't already have? It's not like you're going to get continued service, like you would at a restaurant. 10 a head + soda, and nothing more than that.

Everyone in this thread is a cheap ass. Here's the answer: 10 dollars a person, a drink, half a sandwich, a dessert and one appetizer to share. Then the least attractive one can finger my asshole.

I live in a 3rd floor walk up with narrow stairs. They are hauling the old fridge away. $20 and drinks (but, unfortunately, they won't be cold).

Pretty much my rule o thumb as well. Water sometimes can be substituted by coffe, beer, soda pending on crew. Roofies for the best looking.

Its probably included to haul away the old one. I'd give them 5 bucks each and tell them to buzz off. You need that money for cat food.

If theres a bunch of guys taring my roof I'll give them 2 beers each. If one asks me if I trust my wife its over unless he does my taxes.

Well, the deliverymen showed up at 9:45am. The second one of them walked in the door he said, "Sorry, I can't bring it upstairs. Your doorway and stairs are too narrow. You should have measured."
Yes, I *considered* the size of the fridge vs. the size of the doorway and hallway. The height and width of the new fridge were the same as the old one. I didn't consider the depth. Apparently the new fridge is two inches deeper than the old one.
So, I went back to Sears and had to order the most ridiculously small refrigerator (10.5 cubic feet). It's shorter than I am and I'm only 5'2"! And it's actually $100 MORE expensive than the one I had originally bought ("It's a 'special' size"). WOW! What a fucking scam! The bldg was renovated 21 or so years ago and all the appliances are Sears/Kenmore. Apparently, fridges are a little bigger now.
It's just laughable. I painted and had my floors redone about 11 years ago. Of course I didn't move the refrigerator to paint behind it or to have the floors refinished. Now this glorified dorm fridge is going to look ridiculous in that space.
There is a bit of good news-- I canceled the service contract so it wound up being $100 less.
I haven't had a working refrigerator since Wednesday night. I never realized how dependent I am on refrigeration. I can't even have cold drinks! I would never have survived before all the mod cons.
So , my fridge went. What do you think will be next? The hot water heater or the boiler?

atleast $100 each..see you tomrrow ; )
