Just bought a new house on Wednesday. Other than a few minor cosmetic jobs, such as painting, my number one priority is to get a kegerator. Anyone have one they really like, or even bad experiences with particular models?
Once I do get one, you are all invited over for some ice cold beer! :drunk:

Is that the 5 liter type or one for half kegs?

You have to check the Bowery for used ones. Those restaurant equip. places usually have good prices. (new ones are too expensive)
Most microbrews and even some major brands (except Guinness) sell their product in "sixtels". (1/6 of a barrel) Most kegs you see at parties or at a bar are 1/2 barrels.
This is the size that I would keep if I was to set up a home draught system. Beer stays fresher, and because of the size you can fit like 4 brands in 1 kegarator. This is the way to go! Try to find one of these downtown and do the lines/tap head on your own. (check out micromatic (http://www.micromatic.com/forum/us-en/kegerators-kegerator-kits-home/) for all of that crap...go there anyway whole forums on this stuff!)
Look at this set-up on a "true" brand...

You can also convert an old fridge...gives you more cold storage too.

i like your priorities in life! i don't know anything about kegerators but i can't wait for the invitation! i'd definitely check out beer-related message boards for this kind of info, this is a serious investment and you should consult professionals. in the meantime i'll drink my bottled beer.

As mentioned, definitely check beer related sites. If you have a garage or spot in your basement where aesthetics aren't an issue, the old fridge conversion is a great move. You can fit larger kegs in there, customize it to your specs, and also put bottles or growlers (or maybe even food!) in there to keep cool.
Like joethebartender said, the new ones are way overpriced. See if you can score a used model. I have a buddy who is quite handy (and an electrician), and he rigged up a small fridge under his counter and ran the taps up through the countertop. It's gorgeous.
By the way, congrats on your new home! Enjoy it, and don't be surprised if we all take you up on your offer for beers.......

I checked with Home Depot. They have a kegerator for $350. I am going to take a look at it tomorrow morning. I hope by noon Sunday, that I have a Bud Light keg flowing from it.
My chick is really cool with it. We haven't finished painting, nor moved in yet, but we are definitely picking up the kegerator within the week. If all goes well, the kegerator will move in before I do.
Let the countdown begin until Wednesday!

You end up getting it dude? I've been looking for one of these for a long time actually but never bought my own. Last one I had was inherited and the tape promptly broke.

I got it on Sunday from Home Depot. It was listed down from 449 to 349. However, there is something wrong with the regulator so I have not had a beer yet. I spoke with customer service of the manufacturer. They are shipping me a new regulator.
Here was the problem I was encountering: (I know nothing about regulators.) The gauge was not moving from "0". The tank is full but it did not seem like the gas was moving through the regulator. Anyway, I hope to have the new regulator by tomorrow or Friday.
Could it be that I did something wrong? My friend actually set it up when I was out getting something so I don't know if he did something/put it together wrong. But it seems like there is not really much to it.
