I'm in Nashville and want to stop at the famed local BBQ place and bring it back for Jeff on my way home.

Are they gonna give me shit trying to get delicious hot ribs and pulled pork through security? I brought cupcakes back w/o a problem from chicago, but this is going to be a larger effort.

I know they will take liquids away, not sure about food, especially since it isn't an international flight I think you should be fine

this is from a regional airport Do NOT bring food to the security checkpoint unless it is wrapped or in a container. Unpeeled natural foods like fruit are okay.

Shouldn't be a problem. I flew from Newark to Cincinnati on Friday and picked up a Subway sandwich and some chips prior to going through security and they let me pass.

Will the delicious BBQ sauce it's drenched in be considered liquid/gel?

What about mac and cheese?

I will be crushed if I stop to get all this BBQ and security takes it and secretly eats it. I am going to buy one of those zippy pack things and stuff it all in there and put it on the conveyor and see what happens.

Coming in, they didn't give me any shit, and I mistakenly packed my ENTIRE makeup bag, w/ lotions, gels, full sized everything. Plus a bunch of matches.

nah they consider bottles of water or milk and soda as liquids and medications

i doubt you'll have trouble, but if they try to confiscate it, insist that you want to throw it out. fuck those fucksticks. (actually, i can't imagine they'd eat anything for fear of poisoning.)

two people so far here have told me to go to this place, and it's right down the street from my hotel.

I used to bring wings back from Duff's all the time. No biggie.

Coming back from Argentina was one of my greatest moments.
The slackjaws they hire for security were so worried about finding cocaine in the BBQ salt I brought back, and making sure I declared all my wine. They rifled through my bags of dirty skivvies like they were on a mission to bust Pablo Escobar.

Meanwhile, hanging from the handle of the luggage cart were 2 beautiful, hand-crafted churripan! Made with love just for me. THAT was a clear violation. Those idiots never even thought to look.

Best dinner ever!

Call the airport first and find out the specifics. If they are going to give you a hard time then look into shipping options.

keep it quiet about it being okay to bring food on the plane, if my boss finds out she won't let me expense lunch on day trips

Ok, cool.

I'm glad you weren't talking about Rippy's because it kind of sucks.

Also, thanks for the link, I just applied for a job there.

good luck on the job app! Would be kind of exciting if you get it and all just cause Missy is in Nashville...

My cousins always bring back 1-2 crave cases from White Castle every visit when they come to NJ to bring back home to Cali. So I don't think that would be a problem.

oh man, I'd kill for that freaking beefa de lomo or whatever they call it. Mouth watering remembering it. Never had steak like that ever again. They can really mangle a ceasar salad there, but that delicious beef... for like 3 american dollars no less :drunk::surrender:

Also gotta love a country that checks your armpits and feet before they will allow you into a public pool.

Last time I flew up to SF I realized mid-flight that my pocket knife was in my carry on.

They didn't catch it but they managed to throw away a 3.5oz bottle a few trips before.

This has nothing to do with food...I'm just annoyed at TSA.

A churripan is a sandwich. The two elements are painstakingly combined. Then lovingly dressed with chimichurri and served with a salad and a Quilmes.

I believe they serve this in heaven.

I'd go pick up some tupperwear or disposable containers and put them in there, then be sure they fit into something that would be considered a carry on bag. I know you're not allowed any liquids larger then 2 ounces though.

Anyone gives you shit I'd ask to speak to a superior and then to see it in writing.

I always pack my own food on the plane and have never had any problem.

Jacks BBQ is ok, it is just popular because it is on the tourist "strip" downtown. Be sure to eat at Demo's before you leave Nashville, it is just a couple of blocks away from Jacks. Great food and service, reasonably priced. Probably similar to a restaurant in NY, but a local favorite in Nashville. Also try the Big River Grille (http://www.bigrivergrille.com/index.php?pg=location&sub=loc&location_id=22) a couple blocks down Broadway towards the river. They brew their own and have good food as well.:bye:

i know it's a sandwich, just seemed odd for one (two) to be hangin' off your luggage. and how is it illegal to take a sandwich on a plane?

internationally you are not allowed to bring food across, my mom was even stripped off her banana by a beagle at the airport... and she had gotten the banana on the plane even.

Last time I was in Germany it was German Shepards and they are not the pettable type. Their handlers are carrying MPK-5s (sub-machine gun) and are even less nice.

We are actually eating there tomorrow! Wherever we went tonight had these delicious sweet potato biscuits with some kind of sausage gravy... omg it was the best gravy I ever had in my life. If you have better bbq recommendations near the area that Jacks is in, I'm listening... I want to easily be able to pick something up on my way home without having to take a special cab to get there.

First I dipped the biscuits, then ate all remaining sausage pieces w/ fork. It was epic deliciousness. It almost makes me want to move to the South.

Nothing wrong with rat-holing a few spare ribs.

The potato salad can get messy though.

I am sitting right now in the airport lounge, with a glorious taped up box full o' BBQ in front of me. The lounge staff are trying to convince me to open it up and share. I wasn't even questioned at security, but my flight is now delayed and I hope this will hold up. The guy at the restaraunt said it's all packed up in styrafoam and should make it.

It would be amusing to track Missy's flight with FlightTrac and photoshop a picture with a smiling Jeff at the end of the flight.

BTW, this confirms Missy's status as "awesome" due to the end of Clerks and Silent Bob's last bits of wisdom.

I took a flight from JFK to Boston and they confiscated my sealed bottle of water. The guy was about to throw it away and I told him to just take it. He said he wasn't allowed, and proceeded to chuck it.

This is why WWIII will be fought over water. Actually bottled water accounts for only 11% of our water usage but still, WWIII.

As a follow up, you can buy stuff like bottled water once you're past the gate... I never take food with me through security, but I pick up stuff on the way in.
