The story of the out of control chimp hit me in a very weird place of my mind today. It had me thinking about my own pet. The woman tried to stab the chimp in order to save her friend. At what point was this a necessary act? When do you know when to kill your pet? If he eats a finger is that enough? A pinky toe is that a slaughterable offense. My uncle shot a dog for biting his baby daughters face. Was that justified? How do you know when to kill a pet?

are we to assume that illness cannot be a factor? e.g. dying from cancer, etc...

I think once it seriously injures another human being (especially a loved one, like your uncle killing the dog that bit his daughter's face) it's safe to say you have to put it down. When an animal goes for the face, it's attempting to maim or kill. It's passed the point of no return.

As much as we love our pets, I don't think you'd even hesitate to kill if your dog or cat attacked your child.

If that pet is a reptile, then it doesn't take much at all.

well from personal experience, ive seen owners put their dogs down after they become serial offenders.

i was attacked by a dog when i was 15. he chewed up my hand (which i still have scars from) and bit and scratched my face. i didnt do anything to provoke it. he was just acting weird that day. since it was his first offense, the owner didnt do much about it. later that month, the dog ended up biting several other people for no apparent reason either. the owner put him down at the end of that month. the dog was a border collie.

It really depends on what the situation is. If a kid just passes by and the dog goes after him/her, yes put it down.

Now on the other hand, if the kid is antagonizing the dog and the dogs last defense is to bite, I say that the child needs to learn how to treat the animal in a nice way.

Both of my kids have been bitten by my dogs and they deserved it. They know now what to do and what not to do.

I don't let them just learn their lesson. I try to teach both the dog and kid the right ways.

The times that my dogs bit my children were not dangerous. I know that the dogs could've killed them if they wanted to. They chose not to.

This is why I keep fish. If those fuckers ever come out of that aquarium they know it's over as well as I do.

My cat would have to be coming after me with a knife or gun and trying to kill me before I'd kill either one of them.

I had a dog that I could know longer trust around non-family. He went night-night. Way to many people willing to sue, even if they did something wrong.

My other consideration would be wether or not they are capable of inflicting injury in a serious way. My Doberman isn't going to get as much leeway as a toy poodle.

I would have strangled that dog with my bare hands.

If the dog bites a child by accident it's one thing. If it aggressively bites a child it is dead.My dog is trained way better than that.If he were to snap and go after a kid it would mean something was wrong with him anyway.

I'm with ya on the religious nuts, but animal nuts are delicious, better than baby meat.

Only if he got rabid.

If he actually bite someone they'd deserve it.
