View Full Version : What Is It About Texas?
Hey Oracle! I was thinking about the amazingly talented and diverse musicians that have come from Texas; they're some of the greatest singers, songwriters, guitarists, etc. that we've ever seen, and from just about every possible genre.
Why is that?
Is it the fact that Texas is so huge it's practically its own country? Is it the diverse population? Is it something in the drinking water? Or something more...?

The Republic of Texas is truly a wonder. Yes the reasons you mentioned do have a role, but I think a lot of it has to do with attitude.

I think everybody owes it to themselves to check out Buddy Holly, Bob Wills, Albert Collins, Freddie King, T-Bone Walker, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lyle Lovett, Pantera, and the countless other pioneers that have come from The Lone Star State.

Having spent my formative years there, I can say that there is very little of the milquetoast, middle-of-the-road, suburban mentality that seems to engulf the northeast. There is a pervasive sense of independence, bordering on arrogance, from every station of humanity. It is a breeding ground for strong opinions and personalities, so it makes all the sense in the world that it would be able to turn out the caliber of artists you're talking about.
Or was I just supposed to make a funny joke like everyone else?

I really want to learn to line dance, doesn't look to difficult, but is it a prerequisite you be a stiff from the waist up?

One time I was in Texas for a wedding. I was standing outside a tuxedo shop waiting for the rest of my group when I noticed a tuxedo in the window made out of the Texas flag. There was another guy standing nearby and I was just about to make a crack about that ridiculous tuxedo when he turned to me and said (with sincerity), "That there's one beautiful tuxedo."
That's Texas.
