I could have sworn I started a thread about him a couple years ago, but I can't find it. I wanted to bump it to past the link to the AV Club's "Mickey Rourke primer." (http://www.avclub.com/articles/primer-mickey-rourke,24108/)
Interesting article, but I can't believe how it seems to dismiss the Pope of Greenwich Village and leaves it off the top 5 list of his essential films at the end. Body Heat is an amazing film noir, and he's great in it, but he basically just has a cameo, yet it somehow comes in at #2.
It also leaves out a mention of his supporting role as a tranvestite inmate in the too often ignored Animal Factory, but oh well.
Figured this was timely with him hopefully winning the Oscar on Sunday. The guy's been one of my favorite actors ever since I saw Diner back in high school, and it's cool to not have to wade through shitty films to see him do his thing these days.

Mickey is def one of the best.
I hope he gets his Oscar and the gay wrestling nay sayers do not keep him from it.
He made that movie. The story was OK, but he made that movie as good as it was.
I really do not see any other actor in this best Oscar lineup that can say that.

I'm interested to see how he plays his career in the next few years. If he learned anything from past mistakes or not, I don't know.
But the guys an incredible talent still and one of the all time interesting Hollywood career stories in the very least.

Well, no one could have pulled off Milk as good as Sean Penn. And Jenkins was superb in The Visitor. I think they were all on the same level but I'd like to see Mickey win for the nutty speech.

Gotta love him.
He's never had plastic surgery either.

Well, yes and no. He says he's never gone in to just get cosmetic surgery, which is likely horseshit these days, but his look changed drastically mostly due to the beatings he took when he got back into boxing in the 90's. Apparently his face was pretty much pulverized and his cheeks were fucked up and he had to get reconstructive surgery, but the doctor didn't do the best of jobs ad it was bye-bye pretty boy.
But seriously, how is this flick not on the list?!? SO GOOD.

And Angel Heart doesn't get nearly enough love. Seriously fucked up noir with two of the best actors ever working face to face:

Little known fact... He once dated Judy Garland.

I saw "Diner" when I was a young teenager and immediately developed a man crush on Rourke.
He turned out to be a real creepy weirdo, but I still dig the guy.
How about Barfly? Loved him in that.
Given my lifestyle, I really need to see this movie one day.
