The Republicans, would attempt a Black candidate. But currently, I don't see many Black Republicans that stand out in the common public's mind as being Presidential. Sure they will have a Hispanic, Asian, Jewish, and a female candidate of their own.(Hell, they are already trying to push Palin.)
I really do think that for all of the Democrat's cries that are all our problems are the cause of Evil Bush...If Obama does not turn out to be the saving force that many people were led to hope he is..there will be a damage to the party that will take lots of years for them to overcome.
Italians still have the stigmas of the Mafia and the Catholic Church attached to them in a lot of middle USA..that would be a tough row to ho to get one elected.

I voted Latin American, and I can't believe I'm one of only 3 people to do so. Obama was a special occurrence (a squeaky-clean guy from Chicago???), but the Latino population in America is on the verge of "becoming white." Maybe not in Alabama or South Carolina, but in NY and FL Republicans are already preparing themselves for selling their platform to Hispanics, and a lot of the social issues appeal to them already. Meanwhile, as Hispanics become more and more accepted in social, economic (which they already are) and political circles, that ascendancy will make the fiscal platform of the Republican party more appealing to at least some of them. Add to that the NY Republicans' successful strategy of tying previously feuding ethnic groups (Irish, Italian, Polish) together under the Catholic umbrella, which Hispanics could be included into, and I think the next milestone will be a Latino president. Definitely before a woman, IMO.
