For the second time in about a year, someone on RF.net called me out for addressing someone by their real first name instead of their board name.

I know people can hate on me for a lot of different things, but this one is perplexing. If we know each other in real life, and we're on a friendly basis... it's a faux pas NOT to use your real first name?

I find this... disconcerting.

Everyone calls me Matty. Of course, it's part of my "on-air" name, even though I've only been on air with Ron and Fez 2 times in the past year or so.

Mikeyboy is easy. Jon is easy. So is Jeff and Missy. I'm not the only one who calls Alkey "Pat". Everyone calls them Bobby Pantera or Bobby Fallon.

A large number of people use some sort of mutation on their name as part of their screen name here, so that's easy.

There are some people here who I actually prefer calling them by their screen name in real life. Stugots and Silera, for example.

I don't know. Maybe it's just because I've had a few Harps and now I'm rambling.
