So i searched and searched for a thread like this before I created this and I didn't find anything. If there is another thread then delete that one cuz here is where it's at. Here are some of my favorite songs and albums this year. I would youtube like them but it's a huge pain in the ass and I don't have the time. Anyway here we go:

Firstly, Earl is 100% right about the "black rock" revolution being let by Satagold. Her self titled album is amazing. Check out "Lights out" for one of the best songs this year.

Los Campesinos' album "Hold on There Youngster" fucking rocks. Very catchy, very hip.

MGMT's - Oracular Spectacular. Successfully sails clear of the dangerous rocks of synth-pop that have sunk so many other albums in 2008.

Frightened Rabbit - The Midnight Organ Flight. A bit melodramatic at times but I cannot stop playing "The Modern Leper"

Air France - No Way Down EP. Very laid back. Check out "Collapsing at Your Door". My only complaint is that I want more.

M83 - Saturdays = Youth. Lets pretend that 1990 never happened. In this alternate world a band called M83 invents shoe gazing electronic music. "Kim and Jessie" becomes a number 1 hit. I never waste my high school years listening to Pearl Jam.

Fucked Up - The Chemistry of Common Life. Somewhere in 1994 or so Hardcore bacicly turned into metal. Sure we got Snapcase, Earth Crisis VOD etc.. but that early sound was lost. Fucked Up is a Jersey band that is bringing it back baby!! (i'm the dick vitale of music reviewers. pretty cool huh?)

The Hold Steady - Stay Positive. Speaking of Jersey, lets take it back to 74 and Springsteen is rock the fuck outta the stone pony. The he dances off into the dark and is reborn in the usa. The Hold Steady dusts off his old ignored piano and gives us some tunes to drink to. Sure their songs about the mill closing sound a bit dated but what the fuck...at least someone is trying to rock a piana these days.

Fleet Foxes - "White Winter Hymnal". Are we in a barn? Cuz I'm hearing Pet Sounds.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - "Dig!! Lazarus Dig!!" Cool man, cool song.

There's more but i'm done for now suckas. Oh and special thanks to hicks for getting me into Zevon.

Its not exactly new music....But idont hear anyone on the show calling up or anyone posting about them. Queens of the Stone Age, Era Vulgaris. Its an AMAZING album, every song differs from the last one, the guitars sound so outrageous, and the lyrics are so dark. It sounds like music from the future.

Hasn't Nick Cave been on the Ron and Fez show?

And are there still people who haven't heard MGMT?

I'm pretty sure Ron knows Nick Cave. I think they opened the show with Nick Cave on at least one occasion. And I like "We Call Upon the Author" better than Dig, Lazarus, Dig personally.

I saw the Hold Steady play after the pretenders at a pretenders show (confused? I am). I wasn't all that impressed.

I heard these guys on the internet and downloaded their stuff, and am enjoying it. You might like checking out Lemuria (the one from Buffalo, not Europe) for a similar sensibility coming from a 3 peice pop/emo inspired punk band.

I don't think Fucked Up is going to go over with Ron though, as much as I'd like to have the occasional break about any punk or hardcore stuff going on after 1980.

I like your style, sir. I actually was gonna post The Hold Steady before I saw them on your list. Fuckin' amazing band. One of those where the more you hear of them the more you love them. I can compare them to 100 different bands and still find them incredibly unique.

Shoegaze is the new Shoegaze.

All those MBV re-releases aren't an accident.

In the same vein, I always preferred Jesu to Isis. Harsher and yet more melodic.

The artist - and a few songs I particularly like

Bell X1 - My First Born For A Song, Rocky Took a Lover, Flame (They have a new album I haven't checked out yet...)
Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls, Ulysses
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero
Just Jack - Writer's Block, Starz in their Eyes, No time
AA Bondy - How Will You Meet Your End, Lover's Waltz, Vice Rag
Office - Oh My
Of Montreal
Snow Patrol - Take Back the City
IAMX - President, The Alternative, Spit it Out
Spoon - Don't you Evah
Jose Gonzalez - Down the Line
Mohawk Lodge

This is just a quick list to add to some of the others that have been already mentioned...MGMT, Fleet Foxes, M83...etc. XMU and ALTNATION have been a really good source for some awesome music. Problem is I don't write it down and it isn't played frequently enough(which is a good thing)to catch it on a regular basis.
