Exactly, it was fun while it lasted. No offense to O&A but if the station collapsed entirely instead of flipping formats and trying to remain somewhat profitable, more people would be out of jobs. We should be somewhat happy that not as many people are losing work in this terrible economy as there actually are.

yeah..i thought about that, but their show still went on. This is like, a firing where the show won't go on since i think the extreme lack of content restriction on XM makes it its own separate show (and why i never thought doing the two shows together ever flowed organically)

For the record, despite having a woman's name Dana McClintock is a he. And regardless of the individuals who were responsible to make this decision Mr. McClintock, Karen and Allison are all listed (in the public domain) as the contacts for CBS Radio. If the company isn't prepared to stand behind their decisions then I'd suggest they not make that information readily available.

if a radio station completely flips formats to gear itself towards a totally different audience, would they even retain the same advertisers?

Like, if I was Budweiser and I advertise on a rock station, they can't just switch the tables on me and all of a sudden make me pay to run my ads on a station that isn't my demo. I think the sales staff has to essentially start from scratch then, no?

i don't know how it works

So lemme get this straight. O & A were tanking in the ratings, getting booted off a ton of affiliates, and generally stinking up the joint. The "A" half of the equation has also become more of a racist asshole than I believed he could ever be, turning off a whole lot of listeners(except the braintrust over at Wackbag of course. saying nigger is funny a-yup).

Anyway, all this leads to me being expected to annoy some dude over at CBS? Should I scream RAMONE into the phone? Should I tell him somebody named made cummsies sent me?

I might just send him a chocolate mousse cake for the effort. This can only help O & A improve their show now that one of the safety nets is gone.

I agree completely, their days have been numbered on CBS for a while. I don't even think O and A were really caught of guard. Their main concern seemed to be the fashion in which it all happened, not that it happened.

not sure where they are in their contracts, but radio stations seem to love spending millions of dollars paying talk personalities not to be on the air. meanwhile, the music stations are franchised from city to city, with a bunch of idiot suits, who apparently don't even listen to music, deciding what gets played on the radio.

no wonder the whole industry is in trouble.

Isn't that really why a lot of industries are in trouble today?

I have always maintained that O&A's CBS show was dog-shit because they had their hands tied so badly by "suits" that there was no room for entertainment. My harshist critizism of it come from OPIE saying from the outset that "howard was unable to adapt" etc, then they proceeded to phone it in 10X worse then Stern EVER did.

Can't wait to hear how it all gets spun though.

I honestly believe that I will live to see a day where there is NO RADIO at this point. IPods and whats concidered alternative media venues will dominate and crush radio unless some new younger suits get in into the business and save it.

Uncle Mel will FAIL Sat Radio, because he is just that; an old suit.

My robotic heart is so happy! If I believed in a God I would thank him.

We've got our XM show back at last - no longer the restrained, constricted, censored hybrid of a show that it became once it was hijacked by the CBS deal. My sympathies to the b-b-b-boys in terms of their quest for world radio domination, but I feel this is a big win for the listeners.

While I never felt that O+A were calling it in during the XM half of the show (as some have accused), I welcome the return to the relaxed, uncensored flow of a complete show from beginning to end, in one studio in one sitting - without the constant commercial breaks every 20 to 25 minutes, and the interruption of having to relocate to another studio in another building; not to mention the obvious FCC and corporate restrictions, which were becoming more and more ridiculous.

And maybe this even means no more of that fucking Lydia calling in with her low-rent analytical psycho-babble bullshit ~ I doubt she's paying for a subscription. Oh happy day!

I don't think a petition or emails or anything will really make CBS feel they made a bad decision. If CBS had any real remorse or thought they owed Opie and Anthony anything, they would have been a bit more professional about the transition process, and would have given them a real send off or at least a dignified one.

In the end they were relying on 3rd hand gossip from Erock , so I don't really think there is any heads hanging in shame at CBS this morning.

Come on pests.... get to smashing and torching your terrestrial radios in protest.

What a brilliant move by CBS bringing in a satellite radio program into syndication... and great move by XM for exposing a declining show to a mass market, further alienating your paying subscriber base.

Glad they failed.... way to go 0.0

It would be very easy for me to jump up like this at every Jew joke...do you? Or is it just the Black issue? I've been along side of you most of the way, we hit a fork in the road though when humor is bad because its aimed at you and not others for the moment.
Its easy to be offended if you want too. I appreciate Ant for his honesty in a time when being HONEST can mean you should not exist.

Meh, I dont know how anyone can listen to regular radio after listening to satellite anyway. After the first day of having an XM I could never go back. Its like having a whole movie library at your disposal but only watching movies Rated PG and lower.

Good to have them back solely on XM. FM radio is on their last legs anyway. I mean really, how many Hip Hop stations can one city really have???

Besides, as long as Ive got Ronnie B. 3 hours daily, thats all I need.

I'd like to give a great big FUCK YOU to the people on this forum who are enjoying today's events. O&A have shown nothing but support for Ron & Fez and despite your opinion of either Opie or Anthony I would have hoped that when they needed some of that support reciprocated you'd offer it or at least forgo the petty comments. There are enough threads on rf.net when you shitheels can spew about how you think they used to be better, or how you think they don't belong on FM, how you think Ant is a racist piece of shit, etc. can't you leave this one for those of us who enjoy both O&A and R&F?

Fuck sakes, I can appreciate that there are differing opinions but some of what I've read in this thread pisses me off. Think about how you'd react if R&F were cut down to 90 minutes a day? There would be calls, emails, faxes, smoke signals being sent to XM/Sirius demanding they return to the full three hours.

In closing, GO SCREW!!!!!!!!!!!!! :furious:

After catching the replay and hearing the relaxed, easy natural flow of the XM show today I can honestly say I would kiss the people over at CBS for finally letting me enjoy one of my all time favorite radio shows again.

I can trace my displeasure with O&A back to the minute they started on CBS. I felt betrayed as a fan that they ran back to Terrestrial Radio after smashing it, and making me PAY for it for so long.

Then we got shitty guests, watered down content, and no contests. (Again not all their fault, but hey they signed up for it.)

Bottom line those of us who hated the CBS show won in the end.

And O&A made millions, so everyone wins!!

you are 100% right on everything

and looking back, it is amazing how i never truly felt comfortable with the splitting of the shows. i guess i had hope that it would get better...more stations, better guests, contests, callers who provided more conflict...but none of that ever came true. And when station after station started disappearing it was like "why are they still doing this, it sucks"

now, im actually optimistic for the O&A show. They have an enemy again..terrestrial radio...they have a show again. if they want to devote a whole entire show to one bit, they can so they could try more things.

Even problems i've been having with the show lately (Anthony) i think could get better. Atleast he won't sound like such an asshole by making his stuff seem "terrestrial radio friendly"...it won't make him seem like just another right wing host. Also, i think on terrestrial he fell back on boring topics (his guns, his money, his politics) because they were safe subjects, now there is a whole array of topics they can go to anytime that are far more interesting. Even if a news story with sexual subject matter comes up, they can just talk about it like human beings in real time.

I'm excited to listen to the show tomorrow, I'll say that

Some I'm sure like Vinnie the Racist remeber him took it very seriously as a fact, cause I remember Ant was uncomftortable whenever Vinnie called I thought it was because he was racist and Ant wasn't (i no longer believe that to be true) remember the famous line Vinnie had.. And I saw him personally with my own eyes at the halloween show that never was depressed and all because McCain wasn't gonna pull it off. And he made a joke to me personally that i would be happy about that. I was...but he didn't know that. I also seen him do racial stuff online in a serious tone...something about "have you ever seen a white gang" and all stupid stuff like that.

So yeah I'm very offended when jokes which are not jokes coming from a serious place and I should feel PERSONAL. And if you are a fan of Honesty...That Hitler Guy sure was honest...wasn't he, but you shouldn't take what he said & did Personally Either I guess.

I am really sorry that you had to deal with that in person.

[QUOTE=CurseoftheBambi;2159393] Some I'm sure like Vinnie the Racist remember him took it very seriously as a fact, cause I remember Ant was uncomftortable whenever Vinnie called I thought it was because he was racist and Ant wasn't

What made Vinny the racist funny was Ants reaction. I thought Ant was genuine too. If Vinny called in now Ant would just agree with him. Shame he was just full of shit and actually agreed with that nonsense. Haven't heard from Vinny since they came back. One of Ants voices?

No Vinnie was a real person...O&A actually had him do stand up filler during one of the XFL shows (commerical break) to get the crowd riled up (in the good way). He stunk and everyone knew he stunk. It was hilarious. He hasn't been heard of since the boys got on XM but that's true for a lot of people on Wnew...i miss gay marco, dan from hoboken, etc etc

Actually what made O&A fun was the whole group who were with them on wnew. RIck, Mark, Steve, Stinky, Spaz when he was there. When they came to XM though funny something was missing.

to me, thats not a fair complaint to the show. Saying "something was missing" is unfairly comparing it to their old show. Saying its not as funny is one thing, but saying "its not what i view the show is suppose to be" is an impossible task for them

Trust me, hes heard me on Paltalk enough to not be surprised by anything Ive said on these boards. I believe my exact quote was "The Eagles will never win a Super Bowl with a nigger QB." That came about 10 minutes after he had just lost his 4th NFC Championship to the Arizona Cardinals.

I know nobody will agree to it here, but simply using that word doesnt make someone a racist.

He's not hosting a (formerly) Nationally Syndicated Radio Show.

Also oversensitivity with the word nigger is kinda a sign of White Guilt. The word exists, it is used, the best thing you can do is try to pass to the next generation that its not something too call someone just based on skin color.

Oversensitive?

I am fascinated with the two most recent attempts here to explain it away.

You'd defend his "right to say it," yet those who expect the right to state how they think his use of it was incredibly ignorant and demonstrated a complete lack of common sense and respect for may of those who would see it, well, they're being "oversensitive" and suffering from "White Guilt."

Is it really necessary to go to such lengths to try and explain away what is clearly a really stupid use of a really hateful word? It's not like it was in some kind of context that can be misconstrued: it was a guy who thought it was a perfectly acceptable thing to go online and post that on a public message board because his team didn't go to the Super Bowl.

A negative reaction to such a thing is about as far from "oversensitive" as one can get.

Theres nothing to explain away.

Its used, its just when someone blurts it out in a public forum a lot of people act like old Women in church when someone drops the F' Bomb on the alter. Like I said it shouldn't be taught to our kids, but guess what? They will hear it anyway!

The word was bured, then rose up 3 days later like Jesus! Like it or not its a piece of "Americana", an ugly horrible piece. I will not judge someone for using it, its their own outward apperance they should care about.

This is a ridiculous copout excuse. It basically says "the problem is with people who think the word is offensive" and not with the people that think using it as casually as that is fine. How does that make any sense? It completely lets those that use it off the hook and acts like those who think it's a stupid thing to say are doing something wrong.

Wha-?!?

You say something that stupidly offensive on a public forum over something as ultimately inconsequential as a football game, people are going to react negatively to it, period. We never lived in a society where the things one chooses to say don't have consequences if they choose REALLY poorly. If you say somthing incredibly insulting, people are going to react.

This nonsense notion of "if you ignore the word it'll go away" is a load of excuse-making crap. A word as loaded as that isn't just going to vanish anytime soon because people think it's OK to use over over a football game, not because others realize what a ridiculous choice that is.

What "right" to be there? If the site was hosted by an ISP or server or hosting site or whatever that they didn't own and that host wanted the site kicked off, boom, that's it. They have no right to exist. The only free speech right they have is that the government can't shut them down or shut them up. Private citizens can do whatever they want to legally shut them up.

Do you think the word "nigger" should be banned from this message board?

Personally? When used like TripleSkeet did? Definitely. But that's not my call since this isn't my site.

You're bring "rights" into this, but people don't have the inherrent right to say whatever they want on privately owned message boards, just like they don't have the right to do or say whatever they want in businesses or other people's homes. Nobody has the right to come up to someone and start insulting them or using slurs without being responded to. You seem to be presenting "the right" of using the word as being something someone can do anywhere and people are in the wrong if they voice their disagreement. What rights are you talking about here?

Ignorant of the fact that he is a racist. Ignorant of the fact that the race of the quarterback of a football team has nothing to do with the fact that said team didn't make it. I'm not letting the argument get framed by someone who is in the wrong or their defenders. Casually using racist terms and then trying to explain it away like a kid who got caught doing something wrong is bullshit. And if someone really thinks that it's ok because they were frustrated about some dumb fucking game, or that using the word doesn't make them racist in that context, they are as ignorant as a person can be in that situation.

And as far as me "not even trying to pull" anything, I don't know if that was some attempt to talk down to me as if I have to go on the defensive. You don't just get to pull certain arguments off the table to bolster your own point.

I agree that on a private owned and operated Board you should be able to moderate the content thats on screen, thats not MY point. MY point is, he can say it whenever he wants. Its his own personal appearance he should be worried about (i.e- Looking like a racist toolbag). If he says it on a message board that you have Mod powers over and you wanna ban him, I would hardly start the "Why was he banned?" Thread.

Also to say "ignoring the word won't make it go away" is a broad statement. How else would you like to get rid of this horrible word? Its fucking said 100,000 times a day all around us (ironically enough, mostly in Rap Music). I would like to think I can raise my kids with enough intelligence to make them understand that although you may hear this word that doesn't make it OK to use..........because you will look like an ass.

Finally, I think you tripped out over my use of the phrase "white guilt", but it does exist. I see it all around me and I will PM you a huge example of it that I came across just a day ago. Also your trying to twist my words defending free speech and paint me in a corner like I'm a racist also, which is hardly the case. Just wanted to defend that point to anyone else reading.

Again, you're falling back on that he has the right to say it while seemingly implying that anyone who disagrees with him is int he wrong if they say so. Why are the only options you're seemingly presenting are that he can say that and nobody can respond negatively or that he gets banned for it? Why is his "right" to say that so important, but you're so dismissie of anyone that wants to speak up and point out why they think what he said was in REALLY bad taste?

Also to say "ignoring the word won't make it go away" is a broad statement. How else would you like to get rid of this horrible word? I'm not the one running around with the unrealistic notion of "getting rid of a word" like that. That argument rings completely hollow with me because words like that, with that much impact and history, don't just go away. To claim a larger goal of getting rid of it is a complete copout because that's not realistic. The issue to me is in the choice...almost everyone is going to know that word and what it means. It comes down to the choice of when they use it or why or even at all. Talking about "getting rid of it" is nonsense...that's not going to happen anytime soon and to act like people who hate that word are somehow holding up its inevitable vanishing is ridiculous.

Finally, I think you tripped out over my use of the phrase "white guilt", but it does exist. I see it all around me and I will PM you a huge example of it that I came across just a day ago. I don't know you, I'm not trying to paint you as anything. I've been explaining how your argument comes across to me, not you. To me, the issue of "White Guilt" is moot when it comes to that word being used like TS did. He knows what that word is and he chose to use it over a football game on a public forum where people can respond. People taking issue with that has absolutely nothing to do with the idea of "White Guilt." Nobody needs to justify their negative reaction to that word used in that context.

I never tried to explain anything away like a kid that got caught doing anything. I still stand by exactly what I said. My opinion hasnt changed at all. I did say I went a little over the line in expressing how I felt because I was extremely pissed off, but it hasnt changed my opinion.

I also made it pretty clear I use "racist" terms all the time. Not just with blacks but with everyone. I just look at things a little differently. To me to actually be racist means to hate someone SOLELY BECAUSE of their race. And I dont. I use it more as an adjective to describe people of that race that I think are shit. I refer to black people that I think are pieces of shit as niggers. Just as I refer to white people I think are pieces of shit as white trash. I guess I could use the word honky or cracker but to me they dont do the justice white trash does. I use hayseed or hillbilly for white trash from the south. Spick for spanish people I find to be garbage. And just about any other ethnic slur to describe people of that ethnicity that I dont like. Including guidos and greaseballs for Italians, of which I am one.

Its the old Chris Rock "Nigger vs. Black man" argument. Some people may not agree with it, I really dont care, thats how I feel and its not going to change. I dont post here to have strangers Ive never met throw their praise at me. I do it to give my opinions. If people agree with me, cool. If not, Im not going to fault you for it.

See the description of a racist has changed alot in this country over the years, and white guilt is the reason. To see a black guy thats 7 feet tall wearing a gold chain as thick as my wrist coated with diamonds, and assuming hes a professional basketball player would be called racist by alot of people. I call it logical. Even if youre wrong, its still not racist, stereotypical maybe, but people need to realize that the two words do not mean the same thing.

Anyway, the whole point of my post was to say hello to a guy I get along with pretty well on Paltalk, who happens to be black.

Absolutely none of that explains how you you could have possibly thought that using that word on a public forum wouldn't have been a bad idea.

Subtract all of what you said for a second and look at it this way...do you think it's a good or smart or idea to drop that word in a pubic setting like you did? You point out that most of the people here are strangers to you...shouldn't that mean you should do the smart thing and NOT use such a loaded and insulting word to people you don't know personally? Doesn't it make sense to not think that your standards with that word, which clearly run WAY contrary, are going to fly wih a large group of strangers when you use it in front of them?

Again, this has nothing to do with "white guilt"...it's common sense. To try and pin the problem on the people who are pissed that you used that word on a pubic forum seems completely backwards. The "problem" isn't with people that somehow manage to not use that word or see it for what it actually is. Your justification doesn't fly at all. You're trying to act like the word is no big deal and that it doesn't have the history and the context that it does. That's not realistic at all.

And no, I don't think you're a racist. A racist uses their prejudice in a position of power to hurt or hinder people of other races or ethnic groups. You're just prejudiced and completely in the wrong here. There's absolutely no justification for what you did.

The problem with K-Rock falls into the marketing and sales .. It falls into the culture of play it safe FM radio culture.. Funny how AM testrial is way more outspken and radical these days .. That said why did the station ignore to advertise ..Anyone who lives in nyc see billboards plastered all over the subway for these spanish station talk shows ..Neon grenn with black background ..they drill it in your head .. What about the internet? .. I remeber back when Howard and Imus were the 2 big boys .. The amount of marketing that went into those campaigns was brilliant .. with kids today so diostracted by i-pods, myspace, facebook, cable tv, (we had 13 channels lol) .. so today you have to market twenty times higher broader than when we came up ... Crazy eddy perfect exanple of regional kick ass marketing .. but again we only had 13 channels so it was easier to saturate .. but geez if they ran a billboard campaign, tv commercials in highest rated young channels for broadcast and local cable .. due ya think they could easily boost listenership by 10% .. who will then inform another 10% of what quality radio can sound like ... better yet why the fuck not market on the 3 big boys .. yes throw commercials on other radio stations like they do on AM .. id take space on rush, hannity and michael savage .. just think if 5% of that fuckin huge audience tuning in would do ..especually with anthony leaning to the right .. advertise on fox news .. so many ways to do it

The other huge problem with FM is playlists .. same fuckin songs by the same fuckin artists .. there afraid to play pink floyd when syd barret sang lol .. after 40 years on fm youd never know Floyd had a singer or records before dark side .. its a complete fuckin joke ..metallica another example you would never know kill em all or Ride the lightning existed (their first, two records) .. its just a comlete joke ..FM is done

Sometimes I think you just read something and translate it to mean what you want it to mean.

1st, I never said anyone on here had "white guilt" and said thats why they attacked my post. You said I said this. I said white guilt is the reason that the term racist is thrown out there in society in contexts that arent racist.

Secondly, I also never said my comment wasnt racist or out of line. It was. But basically after explaining my opinion on the whole sports thing, I still stand by my explanation that some ethnicities are better at certain sports positions then others. I know many people dont agree. Thats cool. Im not looking for a debate, you have your opinion, I have mine.

And lastly, Im not "pinning the problem" on anyone. I never said anyone that was pissed at me was a problem either. Bottom line is, this is a public forum, and I dont hide or tone down the way I am for people. Thats just me. I dont care if people get offended. I really dont. I also dont get offended when people disagree with what I have to say. As long as your honest, even if I dont like your response Ill at least respect it. I just have a problem when people try to tell me I shouldnt express my honest opinion because it may offend others. Thats just not me. People that know me can tell you that. I think thats why that even being the way I am I have so many friends of other ethnicities. Ive been told a million times "Hey even if youre an asshole, I know your an honest asshole, I can respect that alot more then a phony nice guy."

Seriously, Im not trying to justify what I say, because an opinion doesnt need justification. And I feel I give the same courtesy back.
