Butch had already planned for him to be alive, so I would think he had a plan to get away from him (Hopefully not hiding in Indo China).

I think you save Marcellus because Butch knew he was wrong on a certain level. After all, Butch accepted the deal from Marcellus. Butch is the one who wronged Marcellus. So, while Marcellus now wanted to kill Butch, he knew he was to blame for the whole situation.
Sure, I would let Marcellus get his ass kicked. But, raped, or maybe paralyzed, I would feel was too far and would have to step in.

Butch had already accepted that he would be hunted. So, I don't think he knew saving Marcellus would help him. Him ripping off Marcellus was business, Marcellus getting ass raped was not an acceptable part of the deal.
