Looking for lodging recommendations in Sedona, AZ. The missus and I will be out there in 2 weeks and all i know about the area is that it's supposed to be beautiful...and expensive.

Anyone have any recommendations for places to stay out there?

I have been out there on day trips. It's really gorgeous. Also, this time of year is great time to go, the weather will be spectacular.

First things first - are you flying into Phoenix Sky Harbor or are you flying in Flagstaff? How many nights are you staying? Are you planning to rent a car from the airport? If so, PM me. There are some tips I can give you that can save you a ton of money.

What's your price range? It looks that most of the top-rated places in Sedona average about 200-250/night.

check out Tripadvisor.com - they have a lot of good stuff to research.

Here's the hotel list for Sedona:

My family stayed at the Enchantment Resort back in 2000. I don't remember much about it because we only stayed a night and I was kind of drunk from dinner so I just passed out.

I know a lot about the area, so if you want recommendations and stuff, I can try to help.

It's a vacation piggybacking on a business trip so we're flying into Phoenix and the company's picking up the tab for the car so we're OK there. The $200 - $250 a night is the best I've seen so far. We'll be leaving Phoenix on Saturday, staying in Sedona until Monday and then flying back from Phoenix.

Thanks for the link!

Just saw a great special on Sedona on the playboy channel. It was called 99 sexy things to do before you die. I think it reruns Saturday afternoon. Check it.

OK - Rental cars from PHX are expensive because of all the taxes and fees the airport tacks on. You can pay almost double the base rate and fees. It's gotten to the point where I'll rent a car for one day just to get to where I'm sleeping overnight, then drop off in the suburbs and rent out another car. But as your company is picking up the tab, no worries!

Another huge recommendation - DRIVE THE POSTED SPEED LIMITS. There are speed cameras all over the place and you will get a ticket even though you're driving a rental car. The speed cameras in the Valley are draconian and it's been the bane of existence for many people living there.

(The speed cameras are mainly in PHX, not Sedona.)

Also, if you want restaurant recommendations for Phoenix, let me know. I have a ton of them from our last trip.

When you're walking through the main tourist area of Sedona, off 89A (where Rollies Photography store is) look for Sally's BBQ. http://www.sallysbbq.com/ - it is literally a hole in the wall but it's so, so good. Liz and I make a habit of stopping there every time we go through Sedona.

I would also avoid like the plaque "La Auberge" - it's a french restaurant that the hoity-toity in Sedona adore. The reason why I got drunk on my overnight visit was because I had an empty stomach because there was nothing I could eat there. And it was overpriced.

If you are looking for authentic Arizona "driving music", check out Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers - www.azpeacemakers.com - Outside of Jimmy Eat World, probably the second famous rock band out of Arizona.

It's funny, I have a picture on my office wall from when I was in Sedona - I'll post it in the thread once I get home.

Where are you staying Phoenix? I'm guessing, since you're on a business trip, that you'll be in Scottsdale or Tempe and not Phoenix "proper".

As far as I know it's Phoenix proper. Camelback Rd around 24st. I've been out there a every month since November for at least a week. This is the first time the wife can come along for the ride.

Thanks for the reminder about the cameras. I had read people are attacking them out there with axes and post-it notes (for the pacifists among us).

:)

It's sexy to hang out with aging hippy flower children from the 60's who believe in pyramid power?

Sedona was a very cool place, I drove through on my way to Phoenix from the north. It's an amazing to plunge down from the high pine forest into the red canyons. Of course the jackass behind me was aparently late for surgery or something and rode my ass the whole way down.

It's out-of-the-way, but I thought Jerome was cool. Mining town, turned ghost town, turned artist colony.

Airport Rd, according to Yelp!, is the best place for sunset watching. Looks fantastic!

Nice 'stang too!
