Your gonna love Gervaise' Office.....second season is insane.
You should also check out Gervaise on EXTRAS, another classic.
Apart from how its filmed, though, i didnt find the american version that similiar.

I have also watched it when it has come on USA.
Put me down.
You had so much credibility with me too. Shame.
Dave's point is so stupid. So if I like every U2 album except Rattle and Hum I have to say "I'm a U2 fan of everything except for Rattle and Hum" EVERYTIME I talk about it? That's so pointless. Why would Dave even care? WHY CAN'T HIS MOTHER JUST BE A QUEEN LATIFA FAN!?
I thought at first she was talking about the Queen's rap career, not her movie career. I was picturing Beanie singing "U-N-I-T-Y".
Giving jabs to the newbies???
For shame :nono:

Nirvana sold out. Smashing Pumpkins sold out. U2 sold out.
Who gives a shit? Only pretentious people who want to be the cool people in room care if a band sold out or not? If the music is good, and that band can connect with their fans, good for them.

Dave needs to check on his Copyright Laws.....my understanding is that since the mid 90's (?) you dont need express permission to use a song, you just have to pay to use it.
So it dont necessarily reflect negatively on the artist as such.

I thought the the guy that Plays Jim in the American version was right on the same guy as in the British version. and a few other office workers in the back ground looked familiar to me as well.
But all in all it's a great show. I don't think I like either one more than the other. The Amer. vs Brit. SHow that is. I like then both a lot. Going to finish up season one tonight and watch season two for St. Patty's Day tomorrow.

True, but i think, before that, artists had more control as to the licensing of thier work. So you, as an artist, could say, "no, you cant use song x, y, or z".....buti think the laws have changed, so that as an artist, you cant necessarily keep the song to yourself...you would, as you said, get paid for the use of it though.

It's been awhile since I took Copyright Law back in 1997, but I'm fairly certain the laws didn't change, and that artists could always record someone else's song as long as they were willing to pay for it.
The issue with every song is that there are usually two copyright holders: the writer of the song, and the performer. The performer only owns his/her performance of the song, but unless they are the writer of the song itself, they don't get paid and don't have any rights to the underlying song.
The song writer gets the royalty for publishing the music sheat, for others recording versions of his/her song, etc.

I agree with HTG. I would have issue with an artist selling their music to a company only if the artist is known for speaking out against those practices, because that would be hypocritical of the artist. For me, doing something that is hypocritical is selling out.

What Dave isnt brining up is the Pumpkins arent on a label anymore. They dont get record label paychecks. They're essentially running themselves.
If a company came to me direct and wanted to pay 3 million for a single song, I'd let them.
Tv commercials have basically become the new music video. People need to understand that.

Seth Davis (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181984/quotes): I read this article a while back, that said that Microsoft employs more millionaire secretary's that any other company in the world. They took stock options over Christmas bonuses. It was a good move. I remember there was this picture, of one of the groundskeepers next to his Ferrari. Blew my mind. you see shit like that, and it just plants seeds, makes you think its possible, even easy. And then you turn on the TV, and there's just more of it. The $87 Million lottery winner, that kid actor that just made 20 million o his last movie, that internet stock that shot through the roof, you could have made millions if you had just gotten in early, and that's exactly what I wanted to do: get in. I didn't want to be an innovator any more, I just wanted to make the quick and easy buck, I just wanted in. The Notorious BIG said it best: "Either you're slingin' crack-rock, or you've got a wicked jump-shot." Nobody wants to work for it anymore. There's no honor in taking that after school job at Mickey Dee's, honor's in the dollar, kid. So I went the white boy way of slinging crack-rock: I became a stock broker.
