We have either "white color" jobs or "service jobs" thats it. factory jobs boost the economy in more ways than just generating tax dollars. Real Estate, Auto and Retail all thrive when the working man has money.
The US seems to not have any love for factory jobs. The politicians love to rally around the Blue Collar workers when voting time comes around, then treats them like cockroaches the rest of the time.

Depends upon how the corporation compensates its employees. But when a company is doing well, it doesn't mean that all employees benefit. You can have a salaried employee who has no real chance at a bonus, or get a bonus depending upon how your department does.
Even if the company does well, you may not do well if your department didn't do well, or you individually didn't do well.
Similarly, if the company does poorly, you may still get a good bonus if you and/or your department made money for the company. Maybe not as much money as if the company did well, but you would still be rewarded.
