the singer seems to lack conviction ; if he'd commit and risk embarasment .. he'd of realy compensated for the unfamiliar arrangement. cant sneak up on those note's ; got to eat them for breakfast..... this isnt john mayer's song book.

a live show with cover bands (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47356&highlight=cover+bands) went so well the last time, i can't believe it took them so long to do it again

I can honestly say I enjoy everythin 202, all the personality's and what not. I find brother Joe to be a hoot as well, but, and you knew one was coming, I have never understood the over hypeing of 2U, they're a fucking TRIBUTE band! A group of musicians with such a hard-on for one band that its the only thing they will play. I use to be in a band in Dayton Ohio, we played a mix of original music and covers, covers from a mixture of artist that were current to their time. That being said, we were considered a cover band, we were looked down upon by the bands who fought the hard fight playing all original music. But we all looked down on the tribute bands. O&A do a great job of trying to make brother Joe's projects seem important, as they should being a good brother and a good friend. But its a fucking tribute band! Its a joke.
As an aside, the two big tribute bands in Dayton were Ozzmosis, and The renigades of funk, they were good guys and good musicians, but a joke.

indeed. I always assumed a "tribute" band is formed and perform AFTER the band is gone or bye bye. Guess I'm wrong....

Apparently, Brother Joe goes through bandmates (especially lead singers) like ANthony goes through Paltalk hookups.

The singer's not sounding so great, but he's way too high in the mix. The mixing/engineering job is terrible. He sounds extra bad b/c it's out of balance.
The band sounds mediocre, just like U2 does.
I don't get the U2 thing. Never have.
I always thought they were painfully mediocre.

I believe the problem is that they didn't run a separate mix for the radio feed. A live mix for a relatively small crowd will always need to have the vocals mixed that hot.

KNOWLEDGE BOMB!!
I literally had to change the channel every time 2U played because I was embarrassed for them just listening.
They really need a competent lead singer.

The singer sounded strained in EVERY song. You could tell on some of the high notes he opened his throat and this bizzare noise came out.
I think the guitars were mixed TOO clean. I heard a lot of stuff that is supposed to blend, not stand out, so it sounded weird.
That's the problem with 2U everytime I hear them, just like a lot of coverbands. The instruments can usually play everything very close to the band, but the singers HAVE to be above average or it just shits on the whole performance.
And as a drummer, most cover bands dumb down the beats, mostly the fills. Sorry dude, you gotta hit that shit too.
gaz has a board character. lol
Ha!
I'll allow the excuse that it's tough for a singer to really belt it out that early in the morning, but I can't blame it on the mix. It was clean enough coming through the radio.

they also do everything hacky. They had the crowd sing for them, they said props to firemen to get some cheap pop. It was like an awful club band
Death Metal Moe
03-17-2009, 03:17 PM
I was hoping the lead singer would let the crowd sing the whole last song.
And during the high parts of this last song, "In the Name of Love" you can really hear that weird thing his voice does when he opens his throat. Just sounds terrible.

Meh, bad show all around.
O & A's live appearances must be fucking awesome when you are there, but it doesn't translate well to the listeners.
But that's not just my opinion of the boys' efforts, live broadcasts by any radio show/personality have never impressed me.
But since Krock dumped them, the show has immediately gotten much, much better overall.

listening to the replay and it sounds like Anthony's brother has the mike actually in his ass or whoever the lead is... he stinks.

Most live on site shows suck, this was one of the better ones but still sub par to sit and listen to, I do disagree that the show has gotten that much better, it was really good the past few months even on krock.

I agree all around.
I've never been to an O & A event, but I've been to plenty of Ron and Fez bashes. I've always had a blast and it seemed like they were doing a great job of relaying the excitement to the listeners, but when I've heard the replay it's awful.
I guess the old "you had to be there" holds true for road shows.

I hate to do an O&A vs. R&F thing, but The Buddays just put on MUCH better live shows. They just include the crowd more, they play to the fact that there is a mass of people there.
O&A's live shows just seem to be a regular show with a bunch of speakers turned to the crowd. They're ignoring them for the most part.
I remember O&A's last St Patty's Day show, it was fucking worse than this. If I remember correctly there was like 3 cover bands, including some AC/DC coverband that was about as douchy as you can get, putting their band name into the lyrics of songs.
This was actually one of their better live events, but it wasn't that great.

Just put this St. Patty's Day show up against ESD's Wedding show. No comparison, at all. I am listening to the show right now, they are having little conversations between each other like they were in their regular studio. They haven't addressed the crowd in fucking minutes. Everyone broke off into drunken side conversations waiting for action.
Come on guys.

Whoever mixed that should be embarrassed, it was extremely unprofessional it's like they called someone up and had them bring in a 6 channel Mackie to mix.

Yeah I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt because the audio sounded awful. Plus it was in a bar, at like 9AM. I won't take how it came over the air as how they sound live (not that I've ever heard them live). I hope thats not how they sound.
I also tuned out, I just don't dig live events on the air.
