I had a 6 hour layover at the Newark airport once. I wanted to go out and get something to eat but everyone told me to just stay at the airport, that it was better that I did not go sightseeing. Is it that bad of an area?

there are some parts that you just dont go to. for any reason.
ironbound, where tubbies pics are, isnt so bad. just use your head. the food there is 2nd to none. looks more scary than it is.
newark also has the PAC, an amazing place to hear music, the Rock- the new arena, the Newark Museum- really cool, and other stuff.

My dad owned a garage in Newark up until i was around 10. I would occasionally go to work with him and it was basically driving through Hell.

I am not saying anywhere you go in Newark you're gonna get shot but it's a place i would never voluntarily go.

The idea that because the Italian heritage/pride thing is laughable, it's not like we don't exist everywhere.

QFT. Thats some crazy shit. I can't recall anything close to that ever happening here. The most I hear of is truck drivers getting into fist fights or Arabs being shaken down.. Odd I didn't see or hear anything about this. I guess because I don't really leave my building and the surrounding campus.

Thanks t-Mike. My only experience in NJ was visiting a cousin in Teaneck a few years ago. I always assumed that Newark is a densely populated urban area.
