I am pretty young and I have seen references to Qualudes and "Poppers". I have no idea what these things are and I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the effects of these drugs and why are they "extinct". Also, Do you know of any other drugs that have gone the way of the Dodo? Thanks.

'ludes are no longer around, they were sedatives given out by Dr.s for anciety in the '60s & '70s.

My mom once told me a story about taking some and going to see Jethro Tull. I am still trying to decide which part of the story makes me more horrified.

Quaaludes,often referred to as gorrilla biscuits by rednecks, were around until the early eighties when they were outlawed.After that you could still get Mexican bootlegs for a few years.Lemmon 714's(714 meaning mg's)wre prevalent on the east coast while Roher 714's were more prevalent on the west coast.They were a down that gave you a really strong high,or low as it was.Kinda of like drinking a bunch of whiskey without the nausea and vomiting.They were often called panty droppers because of their affect on women.Ludes were very good at lowering sexual inhibitions in users.IMO they were unlikely to cause someone to do things that they were not predisposed to do,unlike ecstacy.

Poppers are simply Amil Nitrate.It was a "drug" used mostly by the gay community.If you went to,or for that matter still do,go to a dance club ,you are/were likely to be handed a bottle to sniff out on the floor.It used to come in a bottle similar in size to a white out container or in little capsules that you can bust and sniff like smelling salts.Alot of people used to keep the capsules by the bed(re.Sam Kinison)and sniff them right at the point of orgasm.I haven't looked for them in years but I believe you can still buy poppers in sex shops under some other name.

The only thing I know about Qualudes and poppers is that they are very popular still in the gay community. I listen to a podcast that is put on by two gays (called the Daily Purge for those interested) and they talk about doing them and going out clubbing.

I did poppers once, you get a head rush. Its kindof like if you haven't eaten anything all day, and work out really hard, and then stand up too fast. Kindof like going downhill on a roller coaster. It's supposed to loosen up your butthole too, but thankfully I didn't test that out. They are currently sold as 'video head cleaner'
