My 12 year old wets the bed. I was giving him Depromessin however, recently, due to cost stopped the medication. I have been reading about homeopathic medicines to administer to him as well as perhaps acupuncture or chiropractic adjustments. I was wondering what ideas you had to assist my son in controlling his urine during sleep. I would appreciate your opinion of using tecniques other than expensive medicines with possible side effects.
howdy!
there is a significant percentage of kids over 10 who still wet the bed. Although the desmopressin works, if you stop it, the kid may still wet the bed, because it doesn't really fix anything.
Here are the things I've had good luck with:
1) Limit fluids at bedtime
2) make sure the child voids just before bedtime. I used to recommend waking the child up at YOUR bedtime to get them to void one more time
3) use a bed alarm... http://bedwettingstore.com/ these are very effective behavior modification devices
4) use bladder training...have your child hold his urine for longer and longer times during the day
5) reward system for dry nights
6) no punishment for wet nights, but make him change the sheets on the bed and put the wet sheets in the washing machine
you can still use DDAVP for sleepovers. There are other medications that are really inexpensive, too, but they tend to be antidepressants like Imipramine; they work but have some side effects. If you're interested in more on this, let me know. The good news is it will go away eventually; it's just a matter of when.
hope this helps!
