Just about the only french fries I can stand are diner fries that are covered in brown gravy.
Burger King fries are nasty, McDondalds fries ain't what they used to be, Arbys, Wendys, just aren't that good. Instead of getting a combo meal, now I just get the burger, go home and drink water with it. I don't know if my tastes changed or what.

I'm with ya, Hedges. Unless I'm at a steakhouse getting those thick fries that actually taste like potato, I can't stand 'em. And I'll take sweet potato fries over regular any day. They're waaaay more flavorful.
Maybe it is just a case of our tastebuds maturing, but greasy fries taste like Crisco and salt. I don't see the attraction at all.

They blow the doors off all the other fast food fries.

I can handle steakfries. And as far as sweet potato fries go, I've only had the chips, and they were awesome. I almost burned down my apartment trying to make them once. Just a little fire in the container.

5 Guys fries now make me want to die just thinking about them.
At any other point in my life i would enjoy the 10 servings of extra fries they give. After spending 4 hours attempting to polish off a "small" order i can now concede that they are vomitous.

They aren't health food, quit trying to cook them in 'healthy' oil you fast food pricks. If some vegan complains about the beef juice in the oil tell them they can go fuck themselves.

Local bar/restaurant near me has a potato press that cuts the fries thick. Fries are all made to order.
Fresh spuds are much better than the frozen processed ones used by most fast food places.

gotta double dip the fresh ones. drop em for about 3 min and then pull and let sit for a couple and re-drop for 3 min for crispy.
i am a fan of fresh cut sweet potato fies with a honey dipping sauce. i am a barfly.
--edit-- frozen fries are blanched in oil. ergo the double dip effect for fresh.

I can live with this. This is how fries are meant to be made. If I remember right there was a fry shop on M street in Georgetown that did it this way. That all they sold, french fries, freshly made.

I like a good french fry, but in moderation. Plus when purchased when eating out they have a huge margin so I always try to avoid them (along with soda). So if I am getting fast food Id rather head over to the supermarket and get a better deal on something like a bag of chips. If I am at a restaurant and Im ordering something that comes with fries, I either try to get them off the bill or sub with something else that doesnt give me a headache afterwards

This is indeed how they were meant to be made, from an actual potato in hand! Specialty fry shop, that is great!

Why's that?
buy or better yet, cut your own fries.
Season with your favorite seasoning(s)
Heat oven to 400-425
Take a baking pan and pour on some canola (or your choice) oil, smeer it around with a napkin to cover the pan evenly
put the fries on the pan and bake for 18-25 minutes flipping them half way.
This is the best and healthiest way to eat fries. They taste great, have a crisp, and your heart will not hate you.

Was up in Toronto a few months ago and had french fries covered with regular brown gravy. Pretty good considering I bought them from a Street Meat stand, but I've never seen them served that way here in the States.

When I eat at certain places that is the only way I'll eat them, with gravy. A diner I used to frequent in Worcester Mass. had it on the menu like that. In the movie Diner they order their fries with gravy. I have never seen it outside of the east coast as something common.

I agree with Ninny that Five Guys' fries are awful. Overdone, yuck.
I like a good steak fry once in a while.
Wendy's probaby has the best "fast food" fries. I like my fries with a little bite to them.
You can't beat cheese fries with cheddar, bacon, and scallions.
