According to royal protocol, no one is allowed to touch the Queen unless she first extends her hand, and no one is permitted to hug or embrace her. During a photo opportunity, the Queen put her arm around Michelle Obama and the First Lady returned the gesture. Is this as outrageous as some of the royalists are making it out to be, or is the British monarchy moving into the 21st century and abandoning the idea that the Queen is somehow sovereign?
