yeah, peyronie's is a serious thing. We talked about it once on Weird Medicine (what, you don't listen to EVERY episode?) as I recall.

To get everyone on the same page, Peyronie's disease is caused by a scar tissue "plaque" on the shaft of the penis, in the rubbery outer lining under the skin. This plaque will not stretch like schlong tissue will, so when the penis gets erect, it will bend in the direction of the scar.

Some theories about Peyronie's:

1) that it occurs due to trauma, especially when a semi-erect penis is thrust against, folding it and causing a crease that turns into scar tissue on the shaft.

2) that it's an autoimmune disorder where antibodies against hog tissue attack and cause scarring

3) beta blockers (a certain class of blood pressure and "heart pills"). a rare association but felt to be real.


Treatment includes:

1) Oral Medications
a) colchicine (a gout drug with a lot of side effects)
b) Vitamin E (probably works as well rubbed on the surface)
c) potassium aminobenzoate (studies are underway...a few show some benefit)

2) intralesional steroids

3) surgery


What has your doctor proposed? A lot of urologists recommend a wait and see approach, as peyronie's sometimes gets better on its own.
