A Jewish guy we know wished us a Happy Easter in advance, because he was not going to see us for a while. Would it have been inappropriate to wish him Happy Passover?

What I mean is, is the holiday of Passover an event you would wish someone happyness over? I thought it was a sad event or something.

Nope. It's not a sad event. It's a family and friends gathering that involves lots of good discussion and sometimes songs (usually if there's some kids or enough drunks). There's lots of food and lots of wine. Passover Seder is where you take the time to relate to your children the story of the Jews liberation from slavery in Egypt. So it's not a sad holiday - it's just one of the most important holidays.

Thanks! I had a feeling it was big. I know I could have googled it.
I remember from the Moses movie, the scene were it was spread around the Jewish camps to paint the blood of the lamb over the doorway, and the angel of death would not take the first born sons. That they would be "passed over", so I assumed it was about that. I remember the horrot as a child watching that scene when the pharoh was so distraught over the loss of his beloved son. Pharoh played by Yul Brenner, Moses by Charlton Heston.

No prob - happy to help. So, yeah, basically the holiday is designed to ensure that your kids understand that very story and that they hear it from their parents. It's all about tradition. Though I guess some time might be saved if we all got drunk and tossed on that Moses dvd. (Is that The Ten Commandments? btw - i've never seen it)

That scene in the movie is eerie, it starts with dark clouds by the moon and they slowly swirl and drop to the ground, creeping through the sleeping city. In the morning there is crying and wailing.

I actually like "Prince of Egypt" better. Not as long, and cartoons are cool
