A man opened fire on officers during a domestic disturbance call Saturday morning, killing three of them, a police official said. Friends said he recently had been upset about losing his job and that he feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Edward Perkovic said Poplawski, his best friend, feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like our rights being infringed upon.” Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said Poplawski feared that President Barack Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he “wasn’t violently against Obama.”

Perkovic, 22, said he got a call at work from him in which he said, “Eddie, I am going to die today. ... Tell your family I love them and I love you.”

Fucking awful. The guy shot 4 cops but they didn't die right away. They laid bleeding in the street until 3 of them died because this fucking loser suburban militiaman wannabe sat upstairs with his rifle.

II'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed to say what they say. I know life isn't like a hollywood movie, but aren't SWAT trucks re-inforced vehicles? Couldn't they have driven it into the street to provide cover to get the injured men out of there?

I mean, it sounds like they had orders not to go in there because of the crossfire. I just can't see someone just standing there watching a friend or a brother die.


EDIT: Never mind, I just re-read the article, which was updated since I last read it... Two of the cops were killed right off the bat as soon as they walked in the door. The article, the way it was originally written, sounded like they were bleeding out in the street.

Investigators say when Margaret Poplawski called 911 to have her son removed from her home, the operator asked if there were weapons in the home. Poplawski said yes.
But the operator wrote "no weapons" in her report.

Chief Full said, "We can admit that there was an error made. That we wish that it would have been more black and white, that the officers could have been given the notice, at least that there were weapons in the house."
