Hey Fez,there is an author by the name Randy Wayne White. He writes a series of books featuring Doc Ford a marine biologist in Sanibel Island. He is also some kind of ex-spook (government type you racists). His books aren't heavy "reading" but they are usually fun and exciting. You might like them they have alot of Florida history woven into them.
If you want to listen to something that will make you laugh, pick up a Tim Dorsey CD.He has a series featuring a sociopath named Serge A. Storms and they are hysterical.

Catch-22 is the second best book I've ever read and it's my favorite vacation book. I've read it 5 or 6 times and even cross-indexed a dog-eared paperback.
Here's a link to some of the quotes: http://www.workinghumor.com/quotes/catch22.shtml
For Entertainment:
Tietam Brown (http://www.audible.com/adbl/site/products/ProductDetail.jsp?productID=BK_RAND_000302&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes) Mick Foley's first Novel narrated by Mick himself. Sort of Dark, but has Mick's sense of humor all over it.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (http://www.audible.com/adbl/site/products/ProductDetail.jsp?productID=BK_RAND_000600&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes) Funny as hell.
For Self help:
The Art of War (http://www.audible.com/adbl/site/products/ProductDetail.jsp?productID=BK_JIMC_000366&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes) Synopsis: This is the complete text of The Art of War, one of the oldest and most successful books on military strategy in the world. It has also been applied to business and managerial strategies. The tranaslaton, by Lionel Giles is considered one of the best available.
Emotional Freedom: Liberate Yourself From Negative Emotions and Transform Your Life (http://www.audible.com/adbl/site/products/ProductDetail.jsp?productID=BK_RAND_001741&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes) Synopsis: Picture yourself trapped in a traffic jam feeling utterly calm. Imagine being unflappable and relaxed when your supervisor loses her temper. What if you were peaceful instead of anxious? What if your life were filled with nurturing relationships and a warm sense of belonging? This is what it feels like when you've achieved emotional freedom.
National best-selling author Dr. Judith Orloff invites you to take a remarkable journey, one that leads to happiness and serenity, and a place where you can gain mastery over the negativity that pervades daily life. No matter how stressed you currently feel, the time for positive change is now. You possess the ability to liberate yourself from depression, anger, and fear.
Emotional Freedom is a road map for those who are stressed out, discouraged, or overwhelmed, as well as for those who are in a good emotional place but want to feel even better. Complete emotional freedom is within your grasp.
"A must-read for anyone who's tired of feeling frustrated, lonely, jealous, or emotionally tense. Dr. Orloff shows you how to achieve a lightness of being and feel more positive and peaceful. Highly recommended." (Deepak Chopra)

Hey Fezzie. Saw ya yesterday. Great show you were on fire! I have a book suggestion its called The Losers Club. That's not a stab at you btw its the actual title by Richard Perez. I think you might enjoy it tho.
Its about some dude Martin who finds himself uninspired with his job writing. He's looking for some chick, my bad ehem ehem Thee Chick and gets addicted to personal ads in New York. Its actually based in 90's NY before most peeps had the internet. He just keeps meeting these losers over and over. One of them even turns out to be a tranny lol!
To be blunt its a "love story" but it somewhat has a dark humor. There maybe some cheeseyness. I gotta be honest I haven't fully read it sooooo. Don't shoot me if it sucks in the end.

fez, i used to work in a library for 4 years, if you tell me what you have listened to, and what genre you like, i can really help you! also - i feel like you may like Janet Evanovich - she is a care free type writer and i think that you would really like it. her books are about a woman who becomes a bounty hunter in NJ and her life surrounding her new job. the characters are pretty funny, and it goes by quick. and start with her first book:

Hey FezFez,
Try this out for size
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein
It tells the story of Valentine Michael Smith, a human raised by Martians on the planet Mars, upon his return to Earth in early adulthood. The novel explores his interaction with — and eventual transformation of — Earth culture.

This is probably off the beaten path but most books these days have an "e" version. There's a shitload on Amazon. So basically you can have any computer voice synthesizer technically read it for you. Or scan your books onto your computer.
Same shit but I probably should've stated it as a VERY off the beaten path method haha. My point is that you could still recommend a book without it being a taped version. I don't personally do any of that crap. Just stuff I know some people do when they want to read a book without actually reading it. Lazy bastids. Fruuunkis! I'm a digital video disk guy too. :P

Zen Golf works too...its mostly about zen thinking and practice but I really liked it.
Also for an escape im a giant nerd in the international thriller genre so a ton of mindless exciting books to read (listen) to check out the Tom Cain, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Daniel Silva, Alex Berenson, or Steve Berry.
You dont have to think much and its all very very exciting.

True. FezFez could get the Kindle II which comes with the software built into read the books to him. I don;t know if listening to a synthesized voice reading a book is the best thing for one's sanity though...

Nice! Never paid attention to those stand alone e-book readers before. Its hard to take em serious when you can read most e-books on any smart-phone BUT that Kindler II looks fucking sweet! Now that's a sophisticated lookin' piece of tech. Lol I bet it could even do comic books. The synthesized voices I think are getting better. Somewhat speaking outta of my ass here but I doubt they're as horrendous as they were ala' a few years ago.
I echo Doc's appreciation of Nelson DeMille (although I wouldn't recommend Up Country).
I also like David Baldacci books.
I listen to audio books on my commute to DC and both of these authors' books are easy enough to follow in that format.

One I really enjoyed is "A Brief History of Everything". Just like the title, it goes from the beginning to now and does it in a really entertaining manner. There's also some humor mixed in for good measure. Oh, and it's by Ken Wilber.
