I can't believe the bashing that Lord of the Rings received on the show tonight.

Don't you people realize how BRILLIANT the books and the movie are? You're making me furious here.

YOU people...you LOTR haters...you must have taste for crap, cause when a FOUR STAR movie like this one comes out, you are bored with it. Ugh, I look down upon all of you. I shall stand here on my geek pedestal and laugh at your ignorance.

I, personally, loved Lord of the Rings. And if the movie hadn't made 200+ mil already, I'd be upset that they bashed it. But fuck it, the Tolkein fans won this battle.

However, it is a general problem that shitty movies get to skate by because they're expected to be shit. I mean, seriously, if it was up to me, everyone who makes a "Varsity Blues" or a "Planet of the Apes 2001" should be brought before a tribunal to decide their fate.

However, if something truly brilliant or visionary comes out, or at the very least, a step in the right direction (ie AI, Eyes Wide Shut, American Beauty), the critics come out with both guns blazing.

I don't get it.

I thought Eyes Wide Shut was brilliant but AI and AB were both overrated. AI could have been great but Spielberg botched it.

LotR it was visually spectacular and thought it was very good (not the biggest fan of the books) but I understand their complaints. I will see Two Towers though and expect this to be ebtter than AotC.

Ikea, I did temper my statement by saying that, for the most part, the movies listed were a step in the right direction. I, obviously, enjoyed them all thorougly...but really, would you rather they attempt to make more movies like those than continue churning out movies like "One Night At McCool's", letting Jerry Bruckheimer make BAD BOYS 2 (I kid you not) and pretty much any other movie he's ever made. I'd give up Top Gun in a second if it meant "Coyote Ugly" and "Armageddon" were never made. The volleyball scene always confused me anyway.

American Beauty was loved by critics.

"One Night At McCool's", better than dice doing standup.letting Jerry Bruckheimer make ...I'd give up Top Gun in a second if it meant "Coyote Ugly" and "Armageddon" were never made. The volleyball scene always confused me anyway. Bruckheimer (though I do like CSI), Bay, all those people, how they make movies is beyond me. And yes LOTR is better than anything they ever made. and Armageddon and Coyote Ugly sucked ass (oooo women dancing on a PG-13 bar, yawn).

What it truly comes down to is this. No matter how brilliant you think LOTR is, it always will come down to it being about elves and wizards and orcs to a lot of people. I personally liked the movie a lot, but most people will never get past the idea that it's based in fantasy.

You have to remember that the majority of the population is stupid, and a lot of people have not only never read LOTR, but don't read at all. Don't give people who make The Fast and the Furious a summer blockbuster the credit to understand and appreciate a movie without car chases.
