I duno Anthony rants and raves on a radio show about faceless and nameless people on the internet, Jay did the same here and on the radio ,he has had a few rants when he has sat in and hosted Rome's show and he has made numerous comments on both O&A and R&F about people on messageboards. Even Kevin Smith put out that youtube video of him talking about nameless faceless people. Isn't that part of the internet the ability to be anonymous ? You keep bringing this issue up. It has been discussed extensively in the past, so I don't think anyone felt like re-hashing it again. There is a limit in place -- you can't start a thread unless you have 10 posts or have been registered for more than 30 days. Honestly, it's more to stop spam threads than it is to limit new threads from new users, although it does provide that limit as well. We ultimately decided not to implement any more limit than that.

I don't think the main problem was the thread itself. I know Jay wasn't happy with the thread, but it was clear from the message in the initial post that the original poster didn't have any malice towards Jay or his wife. People on the board and on the show get photoshopped all the time, and it's usually just in fun. The real problem came from the piling on of certain posters who thought it would be amusing to insult Jay's wife to his face.

Here's my worthless opinion, take it for what it's worth, which is nothing.

He's a friend of the show...he's a friend of both shows. He's not some random celebrity. He's funny and entertaining and these are all good things to have around, yes, but he is also a fan of the show. I mean this is a guy who really listens...knows the inside jokes...knows the characters...hell, he's even made a call to Bronx Johnny's show once or twice. I understand why people need to tear down a celebrity. I really do. The jealousy is almost palpable, especially when you're a nobody doing work of no particular importance. But to do it to a friend of the show is really out of line, especially in that manner. You wanna go after the man, I can see your point. Leave his family out of it. And even that member did go after Jay, there's a big difference between a well-intentioned posting and just being a callous prick.

As far as the attacking another posters family, as was said in the OTHER thread he's a celebrity so its a horrible shade of gray. That thread should have been locked and deleted ASAP just because from the first viewing of it I knew it was trouble. Yeah I commented in it, but thats what I'm here to do. I find it remarkably hypocritical when someone says a celebrity is simply insecure when they find something obviously hurtful insulting to them. Every one of us has, at some point, been the butt of a cruel joke they found distasteful. Distasteful may be subject to taste, but like I said, most people know it when they see it...and posting a particularly unflattering photo of one's wife for no particular reason is just that. What purpose does that serve?

As for interacting with "real" people, I think comics in general, whether they're successful or not, are probably as real as it gets in the world of celebrity. And as for Jay specifically, how many celebrities you know listen and love the Ron & Fez show as much as we do? What do you want from the guy? What would it take for his response to be valid to you? I don't think the main problem was the thread itself. I know Jay wasn't happy with the thread, but it was clear from the message in the initial post that the original poster didn't have any malice towards Jay or his wife. People on the board and on the show get photoshopped all the time, and it's usually just in fun. The real problem came from the piling on of certain posters who thought it would be amusing to insult Jay's wife to his face.

My own reasons for being vicious to Frenchy are simply because she's one of the few people who crossed me the wrong way and she will never be forgiven. Ironically enough, it's because she decided to fuck around with my wife.

To me personally? No I didn't, so it says nothing. I was responding to what seemed like you placing celebrities on a pedestal above people who are "unimportant" so they are just jealous. I gauge importance a little differently then being on TV or in a movie.

Jealousy is something everyone feels at one point or another, admittedly or not.

I find it remarkably hypocritical when someone says a celebrity is simply insecure when they find something obviously hurtful insulting to them. Every one of us has, at some point, been the butt of a cruel joke they found distasteful. Distasteful may be subject to taste, but like I said, most people know it when they see it...and posting a particularly unflattering photo of one's wife for no particular reason is just that. What purpose does that serve?

As for interacting with "real" people, I think comics in general, whether they're successful or not, are probably as real as it gets in the world of celebrity. And as for Jay specifically, how many celebrities you know listen and love the Ron & Fez show as much as we do? What do you want from the guy? What would it take for his response to be valid to you? To give up his successful acting/comedy career and donate all of his money to charity? Would attacking his wife be ok then? I have a stupid little podcast recently broadcasted on XM Satellite radio (available at thewhatshow.com) . Would posting an unflattering picture of my wife be ok? She's a "public figure" too.

The intent was *unprovoked* harassment of another member, albeit a celebrity. Should exceptions be made just because we happen to already know who she is? If Crazed's family members' pics somehow found their way on the site, there'd be a damn uprising despite the fact that he isn't the most popular guy here.

I'm glad you brought up the celebrity death threads, because the ones that immediately come to mind are not mean-spirited (Paul Harvey, for instance). They're just a laundry list of references to their life's work with "death" somehow worked into the phrasing. I normally don't participate in them, but that's what I recall.
