Being completely honest, I'd have to say I'm very wary when it comes to dealing with Eastern Europeans in business, particularly Russians. I understand it's a result of their upbringing in their home country, but in my dealings with them I've found an inordinate amount of them are very demanding and not very trustworthy.

Some of them have become good friends and customers of mine, but in my initial meetings I'm a bit more leery of them than any other ethnic group.

If I see a black man wearing a gangster outfit, then I'll have certain notions.
If I see a white dude wearing the same thing, I'll have the same notions. If either of them prove to be decent people, then all is good.

Also, I know that I'm not allowed to criticize a non-white person b/c I am a white male living in NYC. This changes how I treat people. If a non-white is doing something unacceptable I'm not allowed to comment or acknowledge it. This causes me to really explode on whites b/c it's the only time I'm allowed to explode.

I am sorry to abmit this, but Orthodox Jews..mainly because of the many dealings I had with them as a teen and young adult..they were stereotypical Jews...money grubbing, shifty in business dealings, and somewhat underhanded. (One really creepy guy offered my sister money to be his mistress, and turn off and on things for his family on the sabbath.They wanted a discount on services because I didn't spend a full hour on their property. They tried to get money back from a hotel we were staying at because they tried to argue that their kids were under the age limit to stay free, but were over it by 3 years, and we ended up being evicted from the hotel..list goes on and on.)
I usually try to judge people on a person by person basis..but as I said, in dealing with so many of them as a teenand young adult, I have gotten a predjudice about them.

Going off what Snoogans said I kinda have a mistrust of all stock broker types. On Long Island there are alot almost "Boiler Room" type stock places that I've had as stops on my route. There is a certain type of guy that will work at those places. They tend to be overly cocky and think they are the new up and coming hotshots. Then a few months later they'd be gone.

i feel exactly the same way and admittedly think and even behave differently around a person of ANY race who is dressed like a 'thug'.

additionally, i am usually very wary of dating within my own race (hispanic) because i disagree with the way the culture, as a whole, looks upon and treats women.

Considering the way racial/religious issues are present in the media and all along our vast history, it seems normal to find ways to be biased. Jokes, comments, or just thoughts that go through your head. I think we all have these thoughts, I know I certainly do at times.

But I also think that it is easier to give in to those feelings and generalize than it is to try to open yourself to more personal interactions with the folks you associate the racial or religious tensions with.

I had a Dominican boss I worked for who REALLY screwed me over. For awhile after I just didn't like brown, Spanish speaking people. All of 'em, didn't care to get to know them enough to even give a shit where their fucking "people" were from.

I got over it. Kinda realized like Snoogans said that every race has cool and not so cool people in it, it's not a race thing.

Also, I think having people be prejudice against you makes you think twice about being prejudice back to people. So I currently don't have one specific race I'm wary of.

i recall, being like 5 years old or younger, and my mom and i were downtown and going to the bank. it was all tall buldings and lots of cars but the sidewalks were pretty empty . some black guy is walking toward us and my mom grabs my hand, hugs her purse, and crosses the street. a couple minutes later we cross back over to go to the bank. i would not call my mom a racist but that early memory has stuck with me.

i grew up in the 1970s white-flight suburbs and that was my first experience with black people. i think of that often when i am thinking, speaking, or, acting like a bigot and it helps me ground back to reality and stop judging based on what i see.
