View Full Version : Sandals vs. Flip Flops

I'm going to a beach wedding and I've been told to wear flip flops and not the sandals that I enjoy so much.
I was told that sandals are a "fashion faux pas", which I do not believe.
But, in order to get some perspective, I have to ask the only people who would know.
The ladies.
So... ladies, what would prefer on your man?
But guys, speak up too.
Sandals like so:
http://sandals-flipflops.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/chaco-z2-terreno-sandal.jpg
Or flips-flops like so:

They both suck. (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=60115&highlight=sandals)

Ok, well, in my position, I'm going to be on a hot Mexico beach. I also take care of my feet. Nails clipped and no unusual coloring.
Besides... what would you wear to the beach? Sneakers?

On the beach I would go with flip flops so you can take them off more easily when sands gets in them so you won't get a sand blister in between your tootsies. Sandals are more for river swimming and such.

I will, I just wanted to get some others opinions.
I don't see anything wrong with sandals. But the others - ahem, my family - think otherwise. I must be adopted.

Being a Flroida native I can assure you that you do not want to spend extended periods of time wearing deck shoes in the sand.
The Reef flip flops that you showed are definately the way to go.Just make sure you buy some cool ones not the .99cent drug store kind.
BTW,flip flops are not "queer" if you are in a tropical climate.I wouldn't wear them around NYC but where I live they are acceptable most anywhere. We don't stand much on formality.
Sandals are for hippies.
Ok, well, in my position, I'm going to be on a hot Mexico beach.
Don't drink the water -- or eat any of the salads/cold dishes. My friend's wedding party all came down with the runs after they had eaten salads which contained lettuce washed off in the local water.

Sandals give no protection for the upper part of the feet.River swimming, wade fishing etc require Nike Aqua Socks.

This sounds perfectly reasonable. A man's man philosophy.
Sandals are not acceptable on men IMO.
I add you to my list of complaints in the post above....BUT, that does not answer the fact that they are practically the same kind of footwear.
What makes the difference? The fact that a flip-flop accentuates the big toe? Or the sandal has a strap around the back of the foot?

Like the other ladies, I prefer flip flops of the two. I know they are practically the same but something about the sandals looks nerdy. If you were white water rafting, those would be OK but at the beach it's definitely flip flops. There is no rational reason, just the vibe the sandals give off.
And I hope Mojo misses this thread. I don't want to hear his nasty feet diatribe again.

As a man who spends a lot of time on tropical beaches; flip flops for getting to and fro the beach, restaurant, rental car, etc. Sandals are for more rugged things like hiking, yet you may need to take them off to dive into a cenote, or a shallow cave.
Think practical and tropical.

teva type sandals are for hiking, rafting & in no way do they belong on your feet at any other time. they are absolutely horrible. don't even get me started on people who wear them with socks. same for slides:
http://dsp.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/p129384p275w.jpg
slides should only be worn when in a bathrobe walking to or from a shower.
sr71blackbird
04-15-2009, 02:15 AM
Drusilla brings up a good point, are slides considered flip flops?
Also, when I was watching the movie 300, the Spartons were wearing sandals for these battles, so I assume you could be physical in sandals as opposed to flip flops. I love seeing a sexy girl in her flip flops though, especially when they dangle them. Hubba hubba

i thought i wore sandals, but now looking at this thread I guess I wear slides. the ones with just the strap below the toes and nothing on the back. I like flip flops, but I feel when I wear them I always have to keep my big toe up to keep them on and after a little while it hurts.

Sandals are the best. Why would I want to wear flip flops? What if I have to run, that would suck in flip flops.
Sandals would stay on.
Sandals.

It hurts because you're doing it all wrong. You curl your toes slightly DOWN when wearing flip flops.

I dont know if its the South Philly in me or what, but I very rarely wear any kind of open toed footwear. It doesnt matter if its slides, flip-flops or sandals if I wear them, especially to the beach, I get blisters in no time. So I pretty much just wear sneakers and socks everywhere, even the beach.

I'm a little disturbed at how many "men" here say they wear either.
But okay, it's the beach; whatever.
Yesterday I saw I middle aged man fully dressed; fancy hat, blazer, khakis, and...sandals!
He was white and appeared to be an American. What was he thinking?
I wear flip flops everywhere.

I can't remember the last time I wore either sandals of flip flops, maybe when I was 7 or 8.
As soon as the snow melts I live in these:

Gay.
Not so much ghey as it is my bad back. It's less painful not having to fumble with laces.
I'm pretty much over sucking an old man's cock when I was 5. I still like a finger in my rectum now & then. Especially when I'm falling asleep while driving. Wakes me right up! Try it sometime.

x2. They are wider in the front compared to others, but boat/deck shoes in general are a little preppy for everyday use, and can be slippery on smooth surfaces.
Faggotry aside, if your feet sweat or blister when jogging, a decent sport sandal may be the way to go. Also, boot, shoe or sandal, the Vibram sole shown in the OP is the best choice for endurance. Vibram soles outlast the upper.
Now back to the faggotry...

Just like I said.... Flips Flops are awful. Sandals rule.
A lot of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Sometimes, with socks, when I walk my dog in the morning, while it's still dark out. I would never go out in public like that.

There is in the panhandle, it snows there but I don't consider that Texas.
It's gets into the 30s sometimes in Dallas but rarely. Where Slacker is the women break out their fur coats when it's 50 because that's about as cold as it gets. That's swimsuit weather for you guys.

And how long til it melted? An hour? Even if it snows here it never sticks because the ground is never cold enough. Coming from Jersey I don't count these as winters.

It lasted a few hours. It was all gone by the morning though. My daughter was devastated.
I have a few pictures on facebook, but I can't access facebook from work.
