Hello. My name is Mrs. Suppon. I live a merry life in a tank filled with all of my friends. I spend my days lazily sitting in the sunlight filled cage and trying to do as little as possible. One day I might grow up and have babies all of my own.
http://www.78west.com/board_images/t2.jpg
Hey, wait, what, what the hell is going on here?
http://www.78west.com/board_images/t3.jpg
Who are these two bozos? What are they doing? Oh, a picture? I guess I might as well smile. Cheese!
http://www.78west.com/board_images/t4.jpg
Oh no, I feel so embarrassed, they are exposing me to the world, laying me here for the whole world to see all of my goodies.
HEY WAIT! WHAT THE FUCK? WHAT THE SHIT IS GOING ON.. HEY, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO---

And thus ended the life of this snapping turtle, but it died for a good cause, to feed me.
http://www.78west.com/board_images/t6.jpg
Carefully the chef cut out the inside of the turtle in order to present me with a Japanese delicacy, Suppon, or, Snapping Turtle.
http://www.78west.com/board_images/t7.jpg
The meal starts with a fresh shot of turtle blood mixed with a little sake. It tasted a bit like fruit juice, only heavier and more mentally damaging.
http://www.78west.com/board_images/t8.jpg
Next came a plate of turtle sushi. On the left is the meat of the turtle. On top the circles are turtle eggs, a special treat as our turtle was female. On the right is it's liver. In the middle there you have it's heart, something else, and a gall bladder, I think.
http://www.78west.com/board_images/t9.jpg
The meal is finished by a steaming pot of turtle stew, the remaining turtle bits, shell and all, are put into a pot and boiled in front of you on the table, mix that with some vegetables, an egg, and some spices and you have a nice hearty meal.
Out of everything I had in Tokyo during my trip there, including some pulsating sushi, this was the most intense. When asked if I had tried any Japanese food by my co-workers in our Tokyo office and by other locals that we met the response of "Yes, Suppon" was met with shock as even for them this is considered a delicacy, something only eaten once or twice during a normal sane lifetime.
I highly doubt my wife and I will ever have it again, but it's something we can add to my list of life experiences.

The Obama administration is not going to like this. Not one bit. This is going into your file.

Yes, much, but then again I didn't prepare the penis right and instead just put it in my mouth. This one at least was cooked by competent chefs and actually seasoned in a normal fashion.

How about a NSFW tag or something bro. And I'm a guy who lives for new food exeriences, but this is kinda fucked up.
And I know you're gonna say something like "Well they boil lobsters live" but you don't drink it's fucking blood.
Not a culinary experience I'm interested in having.

Not a culinary experience I'm interested in having.
Neither was I but when the opportunity arose to eat a (fairly) rare Japanese delicacy I couldn't pass it up. As you know I will eat pretty much anything and having the chance to eat something that I would never again get to have is not something I could pass up.
When going to another country I want to try the stuff the locals have, have things that I would be able to have no where else. Suppon was one of those and I went for it. Didn't quite enjoy it all that much but it's a life experience that I have now, which is why I travel.
What bothers me more than the concept of drinking turtle blood are the people who go 7000 miles away to Japan and eat nothing but McDonalds chicken nuggets. Traveling is all about the experience of being somewhere away from home and I jump right in. Doesn't always end too well, like when I was throwing up for days in Mexico, but at least I give it a shot.

That wasn't a snapper, it was a softshell. The Japanese call softshell turtles snapping turtles for whatever reason. As an aside, I had a beloved pet map turtle when I was a kid, Jezo, you creepy prick.

I saved a turtle's life who had been turned over on a roadway at about 12 years of age or so you mother fucker. Thanks. I loved that little guy.
