Ron Vs Anthony

When is this debate gonna happen? Both of them seem to be opposed on many issues and both are very strong a proving their points. On O&A, Opie doesn't really mix it up with Anthony on political discussions and Jimmy has too many similar feelings to get completely against him. I think Ron and Anthony respect each other a great deal and would I love to see the two go head to head. Ron's the only one strong enough to debate him point for point. Even if Ron does agree with Anthony on some issues he'd take the opposing viewpoint and still give Anthony a fight. So who ya got?

i have never agreed with GVAC more then this post.

rons real strength is asking a question, interpretting what the person said and thinking ahead to where they are going to position their arguement. he then cuts them down before they can mount the attack

the reason there is no debating on the show, like he always complains about, is he disarms everyone so fucking fast they are scrambling to put together thoughts, and then it comes off as they do not want to debate.

The same was Larry the Cable guy said ron was the fastest comedian he has ever seen, he now uses this powers to debate people, or give awesome interviews.

I agree with Nick that GVAC has stumbled into the truth with his post.

The only bit I would add is that Ron is not only quick but also deep. He appears to be one of those few people whose allows their mind to grow throughout their lives, by wrestling with new ideas and, where those ideas make more sense than currently held ones, adapting them into a new & improved point of view. Most people get only so far in stretching their noggins and calcify their world views where they gave up growing. Anthony is obviously an intelligent guy but it is pretty clear where he stopped developing intellectually. When anybody talks for a living like our radio buddays do, it becomes pretty easy to sketch out their intellectual arcs.

The most impressive thing about Ron is that he did it pretty much on his own, if the life story he gives us is anywhere near accurate. Most of us who like to think we keep open minds had to be whipped into shape at some point, either by teachers in high school or professors in college. That Ron has been able to develop the analytical depth on his own that the rest of us had beaten into us is really kind of amazing.

PS The only person I can think of in the entertainment world who belongs in the same ring as Ronnie B, combining the quick, the funny and the smart is Colbert. Jon Stewart has all the tools but doesn't combine them as well.

I think it's because Ron reads so much. Anyone who continues to read has to potential to keep growing their mind. I enjoyed the comment he made just the other day about not being able to be caught reading in his old neighborhood. It a funny thought, but also something to really think about.

One of Ron's best qualities is that he not only talks a good game but he is a good listener too. That is very rare. Unless the topic is something that Ron really knows he is very willing to let a caller or someone in the studio talk for a while, so he actually knows where people are coming from.

Anthony is one of those guys that while you are talking he isn't listening to you but thinking about what he wants to say instead. I mean he hardly ever gives a caller that is on the opposite side of him time to actually get his points out before he is talking over the guy or yelling swears at him.

Anthony does do this. I remember hearing him and Norton debate about something and Norton totally destroyed Anthony with some point and Anthony's response was "..yeah but what about..." and then talked about something totally different

You think that Ron's only opposition in life are Dave and Fez? Wow. I imagine Ron has a lot of people outside of radio that gives him a run for his money. I mean I can't even imagine how quick his kids are and for that matter to be married to him I am sure his wife is one sharp cookie.

Ron strikes me as a guy that surrounds himself not with just radio people and fans of the show, but with real life friends that challenge him and the way he thinks.

As long as we are talking about just winning the debate, my bet's on RonnieB for many of the reason already mentioned. They probably do agree on many things, but winning a debate isn't about being right. Ron would keep his head about him and wear him down, not change his mind, but leave him w/o an argument.

I tend to think of that side of him as playing to his audience. He's really quick with a funny comment if you like his sense of him, to me that shows some intelligence. His dumbness comes into play in the women he chooses.

Anthony is just dumb, he uses words he doesn't know the meaning to and he makes it look like he knows more then he does when he doesn't. This doesn't mean he is more passionate or smarter it means he likes to run his mouth without A) real understanding of the topic. and B) because he has an inflated ego about his intelligence because the people around him have enabled his mystique over being smart. Although since the election and all his yappying and ranting the "Professor Anthony" song seems to have been put in moth balls like it should be.
