Like most people, I text more and more these days. In fact, I have friends who I almost never speak to on the phone anymore; the only time we talk is when we're face to face. We do all of our conversing and planning of get togethers via texting.

I'm amazed at how much I use it, and I barely email anyone anymore. I just text 'em.

I just checked my usage and with 5 days left in my billing cycle, I've done 1,313 texts.

Thank God for the unlimited plan.

How about you?

Are you a texter or are you old school?

I've gotten to the point where I avoid talking on the phone at all costs. I will actually ignore people's phone calls then respond immediately with a text.

I'm not into texting too much. I really only exchange texts with one friend of mine. Everyone else I call.

I see the point of texting sometimes but I'm just not to the point where it's gonna replace calling.

I don't text so much. Under 200 a month.

My daughter does between 10,000 & 15,000 a month.
So far her record for one month is 27,000. That's send/receive combined.

I hardly ever talk on my cell. It's all texting, AIM and email. Unlimited texting and data for me.

I prefer to talk on the phone, but I find myself texting more and more

as a matter of fact, I just bought a blackberry yesterday because my boss' admin. assistant told me I shouldn't text with the company cell.
ironically, she's the one who texts me more than anyone else

I just started this past September and have not been under 1000/month since. Over the past week I have had none because I broke my phone and have to wait for a new one. Thank goodness for backups and the memory card.

I text constantly. It's just an easy way to communicate.

It is infuriating to know how much cell phone companies charge for texting and texting plans, versus how much it actually costs them, though.

True. No free nights and weekends for texts, for some reason.

I see that Boost Mobile (Nextel's pre-paid cell service) offers a $50 dollar a month plan that gives you unlimited talk, text, and internet access.

If they can do it I'm sure the major providers can, too. I'd gladly prepay to get such a deal.

i'm usually around 1100 - 1200 a month.

i hate actually having to speak on the phone. i've never been a phone person. quick easy messages are the way to go.

Check out these two articles to see how fucked it is, especially every time they raise rates :

Text Messaging Prices are Marked Up 20,000,000% (http://www.rantblogger.com/the-real-cost-of-text-messages/)

The True Price of SMS Messages (http://gthing.net/the-true-price-of-sms-messages/)

From the second article :

Furthermore, my above figures estimate that people actually use all 160 characters available to them. Say people on average actually only used half of that (which is still being generous) - then their price of data has again doubled from the numbers I gave above!

Making adjustments for both of the above statements, we realize that our above number isn't even close to correct! Corrected, the comparison looks more like this:

COSTS OF TRANSFERING 2,560 MP3s:

via my ISP: $1
via SMS: $61,356,851.20

whats the best prepaid phone,i get out of my contract next month and am thinking of goin prepaid

Prepaid is a ripoff just as much as contract plans are (well actually moreso) BUT if you don't call or text much you can keep your overall costs down. I pay $100/year to AT&T for "$100 worth of airtime" calls are 25cents/min texts are 20cents/text. It will add up if you use your phone regularly. The alternative was a $35/month ($480/year+taxes) for a verizon contract for a ton of minutes that I will never use. (Plus text messaging rates are the same)

You will have to pay full price for the phone, but I was able to port my # from verizon to at&t. So far so good............

I just got a Samsung Eternity and, though I like the QWERTY virtual keyboard, I'm having a hell of a time texting with my clumsy thumbs. To see if it was just me, I asked my 17 year old daughter to try it. She typed on it like she was a secretary with no errors. I felt retarded. It's for the best, though. It will be impossible to text while driving now, and Virginia just banned texting and driving today.

It took about a week or two to get the hang of it, but now I couldn't text with anything else.

Texting is how me and my friends stay in touch. I love it, except when I get the mass texts of terrible jokes.

Has anyone ever texted to a land line phone? I don't remember what it is exactly called but you text something to a land line phone. The land line phone rings, you pick it up, and the automated voice says what the text was. We had fun with this last winter.

My sister-in-law would text something like: I like your vagina.

We did this back and forth for days. Yeah, this is what Minnesota winters are like.:smoke:

I'm like several others in this thread, I text to avoid talking to people on the phone. I really dislike talking on the phone, but I have several friends who love to call me and talk for ours. So, I ignore the call and text them instead, pretending that I'm somewhere I can't talk. That way, I'm still a kind of decent friend.

I guess I'm in the moderate user category but I'm not too happy about it, I'd rather do it less as I'm really not a huge fan. The problem is, I just can't take constant personal calls at work so for quick-hit stuff, texting is teh way to go.

i can't even put into words how much this annoys me.

i do a shitload of texts each month. it all started when my phone broke (speaker broke so i couldn't hear the caller) and i was too lazy to get another one. now its just easier to text if its something i don't need an answer to right away or shit like that.

thats about where i'm at. anywhere from 900 to 2000 or so. i can go days without texting and then i'll do like 150 in a day, AT&T counts in and out so that could be 1000 in and 1000 out or whatever.

i fucking HATE the mass forward text or some lame pic or joke. those piss me off.

I'd much rather text than have to make an actual phone call. Text's are much shorter and to the point. I don't have time to have a 20 min conversation about the weather before Ginny wants to talk to me about the information i need.

All that being said, i still cuss and roll my eyes when i hear my text-tone go off. So irritating.

I am at under 500 a month. I have a friend that refuses to text and it drives me crazy to have to waste time speaking. They pick up nuonses in my voice and it leads to fights. The world would be better off if people texted more.
