Well? What say you?

I'm closer to asperger's than Fez is. Fez has OCD and anxiety disorder.

i saw a documentary on kids with aspergers and they could do some crazy shit. one wouldn't talk to anyone, but could make perfect sculptures of animals out of clay, everything anatomically correct. one knew how to play the most difficult Mozart, while spinning out facts about every roller coaster in the world. another man could look at anything and draw it to perfection - he was flown over Rome for an hour and drew the ENTIRE city in three days - not one flaw!
so, Fez has not produced any of these qualities. Unfortunately, Fez and I don't have Asperger Syndrome.

nope. Fezzie is able to lead a conversation with someone, he does not avoid eye contact with people, he does not have limited motoric skills (like writing )
He has a sense of humor, he understands humor and sarcasm... there are so many other things Fez is able to that he would not be and things that he would do if he had aspergers that he doesn't do...

I think he just has anxiety issues

I don't think he has pervasive development disorder either, or even tendencies. He would not be able to function in society without assistance

Fez's only problem is that he has his mind set on "the way the world should be". He is obsessed with rules and following what mother told him and he has yet to break through that and become an individual. Once he stops being ashamed of himself and stops thinking of himself as weird and just stepping up and proudly and unapologetic acts like himself then he would be a 100% normal dude

Nobody will every be a 100% normal dude. To expect that would drive any person insane.

normal is a state of mind. If Fez believes he is normal, then he is normal. All he has to do is accept himself and not make a big deal out of his flaws and hes there.

So what you are saying is that "normal" is accepting that you have flaws and are not perfect.

yeah i think so. I think what makes fez so non-normal is his obsession with being normal. Its kinda like how panic attacks come from the fear of having a panic attack. He just has to train his brain to not even think of normalcy has an issue and he would be normal..it will all go away

No, because Asperger's is another made-up fake disorder like ADD.
normal is a state of mind. If Fez believes he is normal, then he is normal.
So a clinically insane, deranged person who believes he is sane is sane?
If someone has a mental disorder(and I'M NOT SAYING THAT FEZ DOES), it means their perception of reality is skewed in some way.

the concept of "sanity" and "normalcy" are different. For Fez (who we are discussing here) if he believed he is normal than he would be normal because his obsession with normalcy wouldn't be an issue anymore (wow i just typed the same thing twice!)
Obviously my point has nothing to do with insane people because we aren't discussing an insane person

We're discussing whether or not Fez has a mental disorder. You can't say "perception is reality" when talking about a person who doesn't perceive the world correctly.

you are making my point actually. The fact that Fez thinks he is so crazy brought him to the point where he checked himself into 4 winds
but of everything we know about Fez, what has been said that is 'whoa, thats too crazy for society'? If he said all his quirks with all the confidence in the world with no shame then i believe Fez would be normal enough where no one would be questioning his sanity in the first place. Its not like hes killing hookers or anything...he puts pizza slices in the freezer before he eats them and only likes to listen to Tom Petty. Living in middle America, probably a lot of people would think Ron is weird because he questions authority, enjoys art out-of-the-mainstream and seems to have a more agnostic view of religion. But because Ron has confidence and believes in himself, normalcy isn't an issue for him and he (as well as we) have no problem with who he is. Therefore, Ron won't be checking himself into 4 Winds anytime soon...but if he was ashamed of everything that makes Ron "Ron"...who knows?
Reflexively, however, if Fez was normal he probably wouldnt be as compelling of a radio personality...but thats a different topic altogether.

it's really a question for a doctor, and even then the 'autism spectrum' is something to be very cautious about and requires a lot of reading and information- and time to diagnose. i think the truer explanation has come up before on air and on here... fez just dislikes himself.

I don't think anyone has anything and everybody has something. There are so many things out there I'm sure everyone can be put in several boxes. These doctors can't even figure out if an egg is good or bad for you. I don't trust them.

If so, then yes, I believe Fez has it.

I remember watching a a documentary on tv about Asperger's before, and they were interviewing a man who equates people's names to certain foods. Whenever he heard names he would actually get the taste of the food in his mouth. I remember him meeting someone named Jessica (another AS person), and he told her that he tasted cake when he heard her name.
I want this.

neither Aspergers nor ADHD are made up. that's just a simple explanation that people who aren't affected by it use to explain it away. is ADHD over-diagnosed and/or used as a crutch? possibly...but that doesn't negate its reality.
i have inattentive ADHD and only realized it 2 years ago, sought diagnosis for it 1 year ago - when i finally reached a point of frustration with myself and came to realize just how intensely i was being limited in reaching my potential - and i can't describe to you how much better my life has become in so many different - and unexpected - ways.
i fell under the radar because 1) it's not expected in women, 2) inattentive ADHD typically doesn't have the hyperactivity but goes in the opposite direction, tending towards lethargy, 3) people don't expect to find it in intelligent people who don't make excuses for themselves - and when they do, they have a hard time writing it off because it challenges their assumptions...
Aspergers, same thing; it absolutely exists. simply because a disorder doesn't manifest itself physically, or because you haven't personally encountered it, doesn't remove its validity. my dear friend who had it - incidentally the same one who took his own life - never could quite accept it in himself as a result of his mother's inability to accept it or believe in it. he just could not get past that...
ugh. i miss him.
anyway, yeah, I don't believe Fez has it. Most of the reasons for that have already been noted.

Can Ron go with Fez to some of Fez's therapy sessions?
It seems that on the show they bring up many things that Fez has never mentioned to his therapist, so I wonder what is he telling her, e.g. lack of interest in art, not tracking his anxiety attacks. I would think the therapist would have asked how he feels when he is immersed in something he liked, and than realized that he hasn't found his passion.
I know Fez would have to give his permission. But, I think Ron might be able to help, as he knows Fez better than anyone and having a neutral third party might help the therapist understand Fez better.
And, it might make great radio.
