As I write this, I have just returned from seeing this much talked about movie. I myself don't know too much about the Tolkien trilogy, so I made sure I went with a real geeky nerd type...we'll call her "OverlyAdorable". She's so into this stuff, she actually just got a LOTR tattoo, and this was her 4th viewing of the flick.
Well, to cut to the point, I must say I was pleasantly surprised. While the "sword and sorcery" genre generally isn't my favorite, this film had it's high points, and dare I say it, was probably the best movie of it's kind since "Conan the Barbarian." I know, high praise indeed, but it really is that good.

I happen to enjoy the swords and sorcery movies, but I'd have to say that it's more on the level of Beastmaster. There's really nothing like a story about a sword wielding boy and his tiger.

JustJon, are you sure you're not thinking of "Jungle Book"? That was a truly heartwarming tale of a boy and a bear. Lots of jungle adventures, too. And not nearly as much walking as LOTR has, and the animals talked, too!

yes, but for a true comparison we'd need Look Who's Talking Now (the third in the series) where talking dogs are overshadowed by wooden acting and children who are old enough to talk but still sound like bruce willis and rosanne barr

You know, funny you should bring up Bruce Willis. The whole time I watched LOTR, I couldn't help but think it should have been him playing Aragorn, the man who leads Baggins through his adventures.

Sure, Aragorn is the fuckin' man! But really, can Bruce top his performance with a naked Milla Jovovich in The Fifth Element? Ok, I really don't know much about his performance in that movie. I was too busy staring at Milla... mmmm... Leeloo...
Perhaps Milla as Arwen?

Now you're talking! Liv Tyler wasn't all that hot, either. Makes me think of her dad too much. What's your favorite Aerosmith song?

Perhaps she's an Angel. Maybe from the City of Angels? But she'd prolly be able to do better than a talentless, overrated hack like Nick Cage.

Amen to that, brother. Although he was amazing in "Valley Girl"...remember that movie? He was this New-wave punk kinda guy in love with a super preppy Valley chick out in California. It was one of his pre-"Leaving Las Vegas" flicks. That was him in that, right?

That would be one of his first movies, the one he did right after Fast Times at Ridgemont High. But if we're talking Valley Girl, the girl in that was Too damn Cute and was great in Real Genius.

no, but she was wonderful in April Fool's Day. Just such a weird and twisted lil horror flick. But she was also in the movie Friends, Lovers and Lunatics. I think that movie was about this board.
