View Full Version : Whose the biggest asshole in this situation?
GreatAmericanZero

Just something that happened to me...wondering who is the worst
This involves parking lot etiquette of a packed parking lot
Person A - person taking their sweet time getting into their car and leaving
Person B - the person waiting for that person to leave their space, holding up every car behind them so no one else can move (its one of the parking lot where going around that person is not an option)
Person C - the person thats honking and giving the finger when stuck behind the person waiting for that spot for way too long and was sick of not moving
ok there is the scenario. vote away
The correct answer is B.
Lock it up.

Person A.
When the machine breaks down, we all break down.
If Person A is considerate of the situation and understands that other people need to move forward, then they get their shit in their car and they fucking move.
By Person A moving swiftly, Person B doesn't block shit and Person C doesn't become an asshole because there was no cause for assholery.

Sounds like no one is behaving like adults. Person A is the main asshole, person B is a close second because they want to save themselves a few steps. Person C is stuck and frustrated and isn't helping the situation by honking and cursing.
Tell person B that if their legs work, they should count their blessings and circle around and park a little further away.

fuck that, person A has every right to take his or her time doing whatever he or she needs to do. person B is the one whose need to have THAT SPOT is causing the entire problem. drive a little fucking further and find an open spot - the exercise will probably be good for you anyway. person C is a noisy ass, and not making the situation better in the least, but not at fault for the situation.

Wasn't this an on episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm?
But anyways, it all depends. Did B start waiting for the spot when they say that A was approaching their car, or was A's car already started and in gear? If I see lit taillights, then I'm stopping and waiting for that spot, but if I see someone approaching their car and there's a line behind me and no way around me, then I'm the asshole for holding everyone else up.

right. i've been in situations where i'm at the mall with friends who have kids, and they have to suddenly change a diaper or something before they leave, and/or just get the children into their carseats safely...and there's some impatient ass parked waiting for them to leave, honking the horn and holding everyone else up, while there are plenty of open spots elsewhere.

I mostly enjoy the parents who leave their side doors open while their kids are already sitting in the car. They are putting stuff into the trunk and leave the side doors open preventing anyone from getting into the parking spots on either side of them.

In order of assholeness A,C,B.
I hate when I am waiting for a spot, the person gets in the car and then takes 10 minutes to tune their radio, fix their hair, readjust every mirror (like they move while they are out of the car), rummage through the bags of shit they just bought, etc. Move out of the spot, then go through your compulsive routine.
C is an ass because where is he going? Its a parking lot and B is waiting for a spot, does C have a spot waiting for him somewhere? Granted B should try to inconvenience C as little as possible, but stop with the horn honking.
ChrisTheCop
04-26-2009, 10:40 AM
I picked C.
As long as A isnt sitting there having a cigarette and laughing. If she's packing her car, and checking the mirrors, putting on her seatbelt, etc, I'd say thats fine.
B is just lucky he found a spot in a crowded lot and he's got dibs. He's waiting just as much as everyone else, but in the end, it's his turn to get the open spot when it's available. C will become B in just a few minutes.
C is just mad that he's not B yet. Calm down fucker, you'll be next.
Also, both C and B will become A when theyre done with their shopping, and will be shocked if someone honks at them.
So yeah, it's C.
This involves parking lot etiquette of a packed parking lot
I think it's important to underscore this point. It's a PACKED lot. You know people are going to be looking for a free spot whereever one might be. It's A's responsibility to be considerate of others and free a up a space as quickly as possible. That's how you prevent the chain reaction of assholery.
Further to NiN's post: MY favorite is the person who takes up 2 spaces or parks so close to the edge of one that you can hardly open your door. If anyone is begging for their car to be keyed...

well, the situation today was that this parking lot was full, but there was another parking lot that was empty (which a guy who worked at hte place was telling drivers) so on the way out of the parking lot to go to the next parking lot a space opened up that someone waited forever to take up, while cars behind them were waiting to exit the lot to go to the next one
but i have been guilty of being Person A because i want to set up my ipod, gps, maybe send a text message when i'm still parked instead of doing that shit when i'm trying to drive too. And i've been guilty being person C because i get frustrated having to wait behind someone for minutes so their fatass can walk less, but i have NEVER been Person B. Unless the car is moving i do not wait for a spot and i wouldnt wait if people were behind me either. I have no problem parking far away and having a nice stroll..its good for ya!

It is not a responsibility, it is consideration. It is like being on a line at a cashier. When there is a line behind you, you don't take your sweet time organizing your change, making small talk with the cashier, unnecessarily fiddling with your bags. Move along.
Get in your car, make the necessary adjustments, then move and make the unnecessary adjustments where you aren't holding up a chain of cars. Or be an asshole. Simple choice.

If there's no room to go around and the lot is packed then C is still the biggest asshole because he knows there's no room to go around. It's not B'S fault the parking lot was designed by a moron. If you spot a space about to open up in a crammed lot and you haven't driven past it, boom, it's yours.

I understand the argument of Person A setting their gps and iPod and whatnot while parked to avoid doing this while driving but ONLY if there is no one waiting for their spot. If you're doing that shit while a traffic jam is building up clearly waiting for you to move, you're a douchebag.
You can easily pull out of that spot and manage to do those other things before you leave the parking lot and are instantly on a main road.
And if you are going to take your sweet fucking time in a spot before moving, and you see people are waiting, do the wave off.
If you just do the wave off, Persons B & C move along with no anger created.
So in summation, Person A is still a cunt.

Agreed but again the scenario was a PACKED parking lot.
If you're talking about a mall that's one thing. It won't kill you to walk a little further if there's an open spot. But my previous points were more about a 7-11 parking lot for example where there are only 4-5 spaces as well as limited mobility or other parking options.

Person C is the last person I would blame. Sure they are acting like an asshole, but they are not inconveniencing anyone by honking. They are the victim here.
Person A is an asshole because they lead Person B to believe they were moving their car, so Person A should have really tried to wave Person B around.
But Person B is the biggest asshole because they should have taken the hint that Person A was taking his sweet time adjusting his iPod and such. Plus, it's fine to wait as long as you'd like for this car to move if the lot is empty, but as soon as a car pulls up behind you, you're in the way and it's time to move on. It's kind've like trying to make a left turn when there's no shoulder and there's a lot of cars on the road. You should really keep going until you hit a light and can make a u-turn, otherwise you'll be sitting there waiting to turn with a big line behind you.

I'd guess that at least 90% of public has no idea that their actions are causing delays...or that the parking lot is full. While annoying, they really don't have any obligation to quickly leave. I'd much rather they take a phone call or send a quick text before leaving than doing that on the road.
Person B is by far the biggest asshole here. There have been many times that I've beein in that person's place for a short amount of time. I'll see that they should be in the process of leaving and will sit there for a bit waiting to take that spot. But once I see that they're in no hurry, I'll move on and find another spot.
Person C may be a douche, but he's not really causing anybody's delays in moving around the lot.

Nice to see a few more votes for C based on the initial post.
You know if B was to be "nice" and move along to look for another spot, C would be the one sitting there waiting for A to leave.
But ok, a new fact has been introduced. A store employee has told everyone that there are plenty of spots available in an adjacent lot... NOW theres no reason for anyone to sit there and wait. So B becomes the asshole... but only due to the new fact.
This is of course now a flawed poll.

Person A is already entitled to their spot. They don't have to mosey on along with their business if they don't want to. Person B shouldn't have kept the traffic backed up but they also have a right to the next available spot as per American driving customs. Person C has no common courtesy by honking their horn AND they have no patience to wait their turn in line.

I think this type of thing just underscores one of the problems with society today. No one has any perception that there are other people who are affected by their actions (or lack there of).
Sure person A has no obligation to move quickly but if they took a few seconds to access the situation as they approached their car they could either have waved person B along or told them that they weren't leaving right away.
Unfortunately you see this kind of insensitivity everyday. Some dope pulled out in front of me this afternoon just so they could immediately block me as they waited to make a left turn. If they had looked, they would have easily seen that there was a line of cars coming that would have blocked them from making their left turn. It wouldn't have slowed them one nanosecond to wait until I passed before they entered the road but no, in their world it is all about them.
Unfortunately it is a me first and fuck everyone else society.

i see your point, but i don't think it works here. in the check-out line you actually do have an obligation to hurry along and get out of the way of other customers. here, you're not in the line yet, so the same rules/obligations don't exactly hold. heck, they could just sit there for an hour listening to the radio waiting for someone else to finish shopping. but again, they should wave off the other cars if they know it will be a while.

If C cant get around too fucking bad, you dont become an asshole and start honking at the guy because he found a spot and you have to keep driving around looking.

If they know it's packed and they've gone around the lot a couple of times, I have no problem with someone waiting for a spot. If it's a huge lot and there could be a spot somewhere farther away, B has no reason to stand there. One would think that C is only honking because he has to go through or doesn't want to wait. well, in this particular situation a guy who works there said to every car that the lot was full and to go to the south parking lot (which is the same distance away) which had plenty of spaces...as was informed by every single car that was in the line going around it. But if its christmas time..whatever, thats one time a year. i've had people wait in the middle of the lot, blocking anyone from getting through, when there are plenty of parking spaces...they just want to be a little bit closer and found a way where they only make everyone behind them wait through a ron & fez commercial break
like, it seems for you to not find fault with B is only if the situation (which you assumed) was a packed parking lot during christmas season which is a rare occurrence. if hes not an asshole 5 days out of the year, for the other 365 days he is the biggest asshole

C's backstory. His life is so much more important than everyone else's on the planet. That is why he can not be made to wait, but he will be the first person to inconvenience others. until b races all the way around, comes up behind him and chases him away. rinse, repeat. world's largest game of musical chairs.
What, C's departure is more fucking important than B finding a spot in a horribly designed packed parking lot?
thank you for staying on topic on the poor design.

well there are these things known as "cities" where they don't necessarily have room for 2 lane parking lots. it happens

I've decided that all three people suck.
In fact, this mall sucks.
I'm going home.

So I ask again, why are C's needs more important than B's? It's a PARKING lot. The goal of B is to park ASAP. I'd actually flip your hypothetical and say that if C is trying to do anything other than park as well he's an even bigger asshole for honking.

all 'a' needs to do is signal or tell 'b' they will be awhile. 'a' is the idiot.

If its a "packed parking lot" what is person B supposed to do? Pass up a spot? Keep the flow moving so car #15 in the line gets the spot that person A finally relinquishes? Nonsense. Be aware and realize that others are waiting to use "your" spot.
Sorry if I repeated anybody, but I only read the first 2 pages of this thread before I was too outraged to not reply. Move your f'n asses!
Picking out music? Plugging in your IPOD? Taking bat-hits? HORSESHIT! MOVE, person A!

I see you've been to Tyson's Corner as well.
Is that Fairfax or Alexandria? Or somewhere in between? My friend yelled that we were at Tyson's Corner and it was some big mall. And I proceeded to bite my lip to shut my backseat-driving mouth as he barreled through some of the most aggravating mall traffic I've ever seen.
Edit: AND if you both mean the same place, were either of you the perpetrator living in the bathroom stall next to me two Saturdays ago who kept moaning and groaning out the alphabet in a language that resembled English while rapping their knuckles on the stall wall and subsequently made me get poop-shy? Because if so, THANKS. I didn't get another chance for 5 hours afterwards.

GAZ if this is a normal afternoon and theres a spot literally 3 spaces away then yea, I think its dumb for B to sit there and hold up traffic. But everyone that says "Just walk" honestly? Fuck you. As a guy that shops at malls sometime I dont see why I have to walk what could be the entire length of a parking lot when I could have a close space.
See everybody is actually the asshole because what it comes down to is "my needs are the only ones that are important. Fuck your needs." And to be honest, I feel the same way. When Im out and have something to do I really couldnt fucking care less how inconvenienced your life is. As long as Im happy every other stranger out there could drop dead and I wouldnt even blink. Horrible to say maybe, but completely honest nonetheless.

i'd say its a situation where it is clear that there are other parking spots availalbe..so "B"'s motives for parking is to be closer...not just to get 1 lucky spot. I think thats the situation thats way more common

It's in Fairfax County between the towns of McLean, Vienna and Falls Church.

If there are spaces available anywhere in the lot, move on. Do not block fucking traffic in a parking lot, move your fat ass.
If it is around Xmas and the lot is crazy full, move on because you should of left earlier or shopped online.

U hit it right on the head. Person A is done shopping, so move ur ass so the rest of us can get on with our day. Just having had a parking spot does not entitle person A to take their sweet old time (especially if it's not meterred parking).
I dunno. I'm one if these guys who hates keepin people waiting as I exit a space

People can wait. It wouldn't be a wait if Person A would just move thier ass out of the spot.
I don't give a fuck if thier are 50 extra spaces, if thats the one you want you should take it. In reality it should only take tops 30 seconds to exchange a spot. Person A is the catalyst for the whole time frame. So the are the blame.
Person B is the victim.
Person C is a fuck stick.
