Snorting noises in bathrooms

Why do guys make these snorting noises in the men's room? Are they trying to catch a whiff, or is it like a warning noise that means "I am here!"?

thats the only reason ive ever made a snorting noise in a bathroom. the cough is usually the go-to 'im in here' noise otherwise.

If you are like me you take shallow breaths in the Men's restroom so that you do not inhale all that nastiness. By doing that the mucus runs down and causes you to sniff (larger breaths keeps the mucus up in the sinuses) so you either make sniffing sounds or wipe your nose with toilette paper.

If there's someone shitting in there, or that tell tell smell is lingering. I tend to hold my breath. Rush to pee, rush to wash my hands, and run out.
If it's me on the bowl, I tend to be loud (you know what I mean), it's like a warning to let people know that I'm there.

Thats not nearly as disgusting as the guys who sit on the shitter talking on their cell phones.Whenever I hear one of these guys in the bathroom I make disgusting snorting noises,fake farting noises,loud fake grunts,and perform multiple unneccessary toilet flushes.I just want to make sure that whoever they are talking to gets the full shit house experience.
