View Full Version : Does Ron need a new gig?

As of late, Ron has really been critical on the show and the staff's performances on the show.
He provides guidance and offers feedback to those he works with all the time. Honestly, it sounds a little like Opie over the past month with the talk about doing different things and not being happy with the direction the show has been going in.
Has he gotten tired of status quo? Does he need something new?
Or, is he just looking for a change to come from within the show itself?

As the past 10 years, Ron has really been critical on the show and the staff's performances on the show.
Fixed.
Ergo, nothing to worry about or speculate. It's funny as usual. And when I say funny, I mean business.

speculating is so much fun though.
If Ron needed a new gig he would have one.

Can you imagine Opie and Ron both being in a dark mood at the same time on the show?

One one hand Ron bitches about his show and on the other hand freely admits not arriving to said show until minutes before airtime. His behavior indicates that he is comfortable with the current situation

That would require an EP. The talent should not be the EP, it presents conflicts and doesn't "protect" the talent from management like an EP should.
Waiting for the "Mooch" signal.

I heard he needs a new humidor.
I think you're on the right track.. he doesn't need a new gig; he needs a new cig. Cig-ar that is! Get it?
i dont think its the show changing as much as the listener. and the show. its all fluid man. - 2.

he's still funny to me and makes me laugh a lot. so in that sense, no. but he seems to have total rage towards fez and fades in and out with dave. so in that sense, yes. there was a blowup last week that was uncomfortable to listen to where ron said he didn't care about r&f like he did for rbi and unmasked, and he was here (at r&f) out of loyalty (it was directed at dave but maybe more concerning fez). probably only a couple, if not just one (ron), know exactly what that was about, but there's a tension present for sure. either way i don't think i can vote.

Not with the way he's been coughing lately. He sounds 2 steps away from Doris from Rego Park.

I'm surprised with all the stupid minutae of the R&F show some people on this board obsessively post over, people haven't noticed that Ron's had a consistent cough for at least the past month or longer.

Do you actually listen to R&F or O&A on a regular basis? Doesn't seem like it.

maybe cause half the world is walking around with the same cough lately.
The first hour of today's show was vintage Ron and Fez, from the whole "ridiculous hats" segment to the "words you hate" bit. Silly, nonsensical, caller-involved conversations that are light and airy. Fez seemed to love it. Ron? Not so much.
I've said before that ever since they debuted on XM it seemed like Ron wanted to grow the show up whereas Fez was more comfortable dealing in silliness rather than weighty philosophical issues or cultural phenomena.
Whether or not "Unmasked" and "Ron Bennington Interviews" fulfills Mr. Bennington's desires or not is anyone's guess.

i love 'has a cough ron'
what ever hes been taking has been making him very silly
especially during live reads
my guess is that when fez is hitting the live reads,
ron is hitting the nasal spray and nyquil

Actually Opie's been really happy with the show as of late. He was disapointed with the loss of the CBS deal, but his increased fan interaction and on air attitude are about 100x better NOW then a year ago.
As far as Ron goes......well he calls the shots on the show. If, or when, its not a "bit" he has nobody to blame but himself.
Fez has been a hell of a lot better in 2009 also.

the opie and ron show will be gold
Yeah, If I had to be honest, I think those two could do some serious damage. I like the shows the way they are, but I'd love to hear some 1 hr shows on the weekend of somthing. Opie sitting in on "Opie Fridays" was gold, and the Oscars show was pretty entertaining as well. I don't know how it would work in the long run, but they do have some pretty good chemistry, and seem to really want to put on a good show.
Nothing against the current line up, but a 50 states of confusion show where Opie sits in would be a must listen to me.

I'm going to agree with this last part to a degree. He went backwards on the Rat thing, but I do see Ron engaging Fez and trying to get him to think outside of his own box. Past two weeks have been way better.
For example when Fez talked about the way he's been handling the secret lately,.. No crying. No crying ='s more gooder.

Either No Crying, or he should just flip the fuck out and start trashing the place and screaming.
Then throw ESD through the glass wall.......
Thats would be bang-a-rang.

Ron isn't the problem on the show.
This is a comedy themed show on satellite radio where people are tuning in to laugh at things being said by the on air talent.
He is doing his job.
Most others are doing their job as well.
Most, not all though.

I agree that not everyone is pulling their weight.
Fez is on the air and the EP. Ron just shows up for the on air part. Ron needs to contribute more.

Good, now that Gvac takes this seriously, I know the show has nothing to worry about. Thanks, I needed that

I just find it funny when Ron starts to talk about culture or anything grown up and Fez just shuts down. The guy has a career in talk radio and knows nothing about pop culture or anything grown up. Ron and Anthony would be a great show too guys with opinions not just one guy trying to carry a show with a bunch of missfits.

you're kidding right?
doing 90% of the speaking on the show isn't enough?
ron's rant on the 29th was telling, i only wonder if ron's opinion of himself has changed since he started unmasked and such emphasis was placed on his interviews.
has he outgrown the show creatively or simply has his ego?

If he contributed anymore than he does already we wouldn't even know Fez was in the studio.
And your Fez is the EP statement is ridiculous.
I am now going to write something that will make me throw up in my mouth a little, but here goes.
Earl Douglas was twice the EP that Fez is.

i heard ESD say it, but thought it was just crazy talk... when did parenthesis become an indication of sarcasm?... i've been sarcastic on a lot of boards (and emails) without knowing it... oops did it again (I really meant "and email)... oops... damn
