My wedding is about 5 months away and I am looking for a father daughter dance song but theres a catch. My father and I are not close, never have been. I was never daddy's girl, never the apple of his eye. There was one point when we didn't speak for years, there was just no point. But he begrudgingly gave me some money towards my wedding and it will be a big family affair. I am very close to his side of the family so its a must. I asked him for his opinon and he sugested unforgetable- Nat King Cole, after dry heaving for a few moments he understood and said it was up to me.
I like landslide by stevie nicks
also
circle of life- sir elton john
neither is too "oh daddy loves me"
please folks some sugestions

Missy & her dad used "Wonderful World" as sung by Louis Armstrong for their dance, mostly because their family isn't all touchy-feely but also because it's pretty short.
You may want to consider that.
Of course, my step-sister had a less than stellar relationship with her dad, but she chose that glurgy "Butterfly Kisses" song for her Daddy-Daughter dance when she got married, so I don't know what happened that changed it.
(My dad and I have always been very close, so I chose a love song - "In My Life" by the Beatles - even though, had it been up to him, it would've been "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder. It was playing on the radio once and he mentioned that was the way he felt about me when I was born. Awww.)

This may be really selfish, but I didn't have a father/daughter dance. Our wedding day/reception/dance was about my husband and me. I danced with my dad later but not to a special song or anything.

I jumped for joy when I saw about louis armstrong, I knew that was it, then I saw Isn't she lovely and now I am torn. Thank you so much, and for the record, that song by ever clear is accually closer to the truth.

I think Wonderful World is a good choice. I am not a woman nor do I have a daughter, but I think it is a song that will make everyone feel good not just fathers and daughters. Plus it seems like a better song to dance to.

Wonderful World is the best becuase (as Liz said) it's short.
My Dad and I actually have a great relationship, my family is just not the OH LETS HUG! LOVE YA! type so it was awkward for both of us.

For my wedding they played Daddys Little Girl and I nearly puked in my mouth.
I asked for something else and they didn't think it was ok to use on the radio. Fuckers.
Pick a song you like that is short. Fuck it.

My wife and her dad danced to Tupelo Honey. It was cute, but really, really long.

Some fine selections from 2 Live Crew might lighten the atmosphere.

Im not saying youre wrong for not wanting a father daughter dance, but having one at your wedding doesnt make the day any less about you or your husband. Its symbol of tradition and respect.
Im close with my parents and couldnt imagine telling my mother I didnt want a mother/son dance at my wedding. And as a father I can tell you this, if my daughter decided to just axe the father/daughter dance at her wedding I wouldnt argue, but inside Id be crushed.

Unforgetable- Nat King Cole
Hm, pretty good choice.
It's just a three minute song at most.
Maybe he loves you in ways you don't know and doesn't know how to say it.
Dad's are like that...

My vote is for the aforementioned Louis Armstrong. Short and pertinent without being cloying.

Sorry, for not explaining. I have a dysfunctional family. A biological dad that I don't know and a step-father. I call no one in my life "dad"....hope that explains my thoughts on the "father/daughter" dance.

I think what you did is find and not selfish at all. Traditions change, it's not like people save themselves for marriage anymore, nor do men receive a dowry anymore. You did what you wanted and you should because at the end of the night it's about you and not some rules set in stone.
Good for you.
