I never know how to address them (Mr & Mrs X, Jimmy and Nancy, etc). If I don't pick something by the second time I meet them, it's usually too awkward to call them anything. So it's, "Hey, umm, could you pass the salt?" forever.

I have NO idea what to call my in-laws. Mr and Mrs is obviously out. I'm sure not going to call them by their first names. Mom and Dad? Oh, no no no no no!
How about, Hey You?

i've always addressed my boyfriends' parents by "mr & mrs", even if they tell me to call them by their first names

I have been with my girlfriend for 5 years and I still refer to them as Mr. and Mrs. It's the easiest and most comfortable.

I never address them as anything (I never know what to call them)
I just start speaking in sentences directed at them without addressing anyone.

a friend of mine calls her bf's parents mom & dad..
that's a little bit too much for me. They are not your parents and will never be..
so I would go for the mr & mrs..

That's my rule until I get married. Then mom and dad. I was w/my ex for almost 5 years and I still said Mr. and Mrs. even though he was a pastor. It was too weird calling him that.
My dad is one of those "call me by my first name" people and he really means it, but my ex still said Mr.
You can always say sir or ma'am which is what everyone is taught to do down here and I wasn't (they just brush it off cuz I'm a rude Yankee...lol), but up north, parents might think you are trying to be a kiss ass if you say that. :)
