with the "Star Wars" conversation, I think Dave was right that bad sequels usually don't ruin the original (its easy to ignore stuff like "Blues Brothers 2000") but Sam is right that with the "Star Wars" movies specifically, I think the prequels did ruin the magic of the original trilogy

If you are a kid growing up and you want to get into "Star Wars", you are going to start with Episode I, not Episode IV. What kid wouldn't want to start with the first movie? They don't give a shit about the history that IV came out 30 years before I or any of that. So for the rest of time, a child's first experience with Star Wars will be "Episode I" and then "Episode II" which are both terrible. By the time they finally get to IV, would their passion still be there? Its highly doubtful, definitely more doubtful than a kid born in the 80s who gets into Episode IV and V immediately and could sit and dream about what Episode I-III would be about.
