I realize I'm opening a can o worms here, but not only do I enjoy the show but I find some of it has real validity.
Both 2001: A Space Odyssey and Prometheus make these theories their main focus.

This is not really about religion or science but it is wild.
It may be the most insane and most sane thing I've ever seen.

Probably the most popular scary movie ever. Also, probably because it is one the scariest. The whole approach was of utter comittment to the sincere belief in the subject matter.

Keeping with the time frame of The Exorcist, Jaws is (for me) at least as frightening, or more. Even if you don't have any religious/spiritual beliefs, The Exorcist will scare the fuck out of you if you suspend disbelief.

In the case with Jaws... In reality, the existence of THAT shark is improbable. But vicious great white sharks DO exist. They DO kill people. When you're in the ocean, you have NO idea what the fuck is in there with you.

When I saw The Exorcist as a kid, it did scare me. I'll have to admit, though, at that age, The Omen scared me more. But neither of them freaked me out as much as Jaws.

https://archive.org/details/TheVoynichManuscript

The Voynich Manuscript is a document that is notable for it's strange text, that to date hasn't been decyphered. Theories range from a secret language or code to an old sort of joke or hoax.

from 1500's 5k years of trying to know what it is.
