If you read the book "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell, he states that the best improvisation happens when the actors have a previously agreed upon premise that they will go along with whatever the other suggests. A negative response sends the improvisation spiraling downward quickly. Dave has this down perfectly when improvising with Ron. Ron will suggest something maniacal and Dave will just run with it.
