What is the burning smell in my head?

I got this licorice from a Dutch bakery in Sussex, NJ. I like the stuff. It's weird, it's gummy and comes salted to a different degree. I tried medium this time.

Only problem is, every time I put a piece in my mouth this overwhelming smell, like something is kinda burning, is in my nose. It really reminds me of the time I had my nose quaterized.

Anyone else ever have this?
