I need to move closer to Pittsburgh and thats a pain in the ass. Anyone looking for an official Big Ass roommate or know someone that is? I am looking to move within the next 3 months. Just putting out feelers.

Also if someone has any real ideas please PM me. I am really happy where I am work wise and I would hate to be the fake golden buns on live from the compound in a few years.

Dude!

I will talk to a friend of mine who has an apartment down there. Conveniently enough, he is moving out of there in August to a new place with his wife.

I forget the neighborhood, but it's one of those hip places.

If you're in Pittsburgh can you really call it living?

Please, as a fellow rult-belt resident, I know that all you can do is die slower.

there are some great areas here, and some real shit spots. Aspinwall is a nice little area, but expensive for that reason. Bellevue, just south of the city, is pretty decent and you can find something fairly affordably.

i bitch about Pittsburgh, but there are some things about it that make it a truly wonderful place to be.

I love Pittsburgh, it's not the prettiest place to live but I have never lived anywhere else that made me feel like Pittsburgh does. As soon as I get there I feel like I am being hugged by the whole city. I grew up there and it just is an awesome place to be. Downtown is great for the arts, and there are a lot of great hole in the wall places to grab a coffee or sit and read a book.

I have been very homesick for Pittsburgh for the last 2 years.

As a Buffalonian I am going to stick up for my North East Brethren.

Pittsburgh is a cool place with a bunch of nice areas.

Gotta love NYCers acting like the Big City is the only suitable place to live in this great country.

I mean how could we survive not walking down the street with the Sweet Stench of Piss and Garbage burning my nostrils.

it does have a pretty skyline, though. just don't look at the brown rivers.

i lived in P for about 4 years and had a great time. i was fortunate enough to live in Mt Washington overlooking the city for a while but there are plenty of cool places too, stayed in Oakland (Univ Pitt) and Shadyside. All great neighborhoods with character. Great food city.

I was actually meaning that towards NYC. It smells like a cesspool there.

I know, but where most of that city smells of urine, we only have a few streets.

just don't travel far from the city, particularly south, unless you want to encounter a shitload of fucking idiocy. it may as well be motherfucking west virginia in some spots.

I can definitely help you out in this area...

I grew up in a suburb about 20 minutes North, moved out west for college for 5.5 years and have recently moved back and now live in the city. Initially was reluctant, but I have slowly grown to fall back in love with this place.

I currently live in Squirrel Hill; a pretty affluent and very Jewish neighborhood near Oakland which is home to Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University. I live in the dumpiest house in a row of old mansions with 5 other people, some in a band, and am actually planning on moving at the end of July. Originally I thought I'd be headed to New York at this point, but now I plan to stay for at least another year. I don't know that I'm in the hunt for a roommate just yet, but I can give you some insight as to the various neighborhoods in this city as there are many and they are quite diverse. I'm in the hunt for a place myself...

If you're looking for the hipster, budding music and arts type scene, you're going to want in Lawrenceville/Bloomfield. Think Brooklyn only much smaller and surely a bit behind. Lots of bars, music, galleries, eateries, bikes and tight jeans. Surprisingly, there is a pretty cool music scene here in this city with a number of venues in the Lawrenceville/Bloomfied area that cater to the crowd.

If you're looking for the young professional, a bit on the higher end area with trendier bars and stores and such, you're going to want to look into Shadyside. Old really nice architecture and apartments and some good food/bars. Oakland, which is buts into Shadyside, as I said is home to several universities and colleges. Cool museums and the much of the typical east coast college vibe that is found elsewhere.

The Southside has a number of affordable, decent places to live. There are literally hundreds of bars, restaurants, venues, shops etc on and around Carson St. Large area with a lot of options.

Mt. Washington affords amazing views of the city. It's hit or miss as far as various streets and neighborhoods up there though.

The North Side has several hidden gems but is a pretty rough area for the most part.

I could continue but I should probably get back to work. I can definitely go on from here; much more specific and in depth. Let me know what you need as this city really is highly underrated and a surprising wealth of culture and diversity.

What brings you to the 'Burgh?

don't forget to visit the strip district. love it for the restaurants, farmers markets/fish markets, but mostly for my favorite record store in Pittsburgh, Eide's.

Used to visit Pitt alot while working for Consol Energy. I would stay out in the South between Pitt and Washington. I once jumped on a train down to the strip and got shit faced. 3am was waiting on a return train and threw up on my shirt. It was hell on the ride back - but I loved visiting Pitt

Your pic spam made my heart hurt :) My father used to take me out on one of his friends boats and we would be out there for hours and seeing the city light up at night was the biggest treat for me.

Homesickness sucks yo.

Shadyside, Squirrel Hill...great neighborhoods. Oakland is a dump because of the dirty college students.

I hated living there when I was a teenager but I think I'd quite like Pittsburgh as a grown man.
