Board characters require you to have an investment in the board that you need to know who all the players are and care enough to laugh or get pissed. Board characters are the very essence of taking a messageboard "too seriously".

That said, although I like this board, I think board characters are a waste of time and just stupid. Be yourself and say what you want to say, and don't pussy out and use another name to be an alter-ego. As much as you don't want to admit it, you're not Clark Kent.

I couldn't disagree more. Why? The board members do a pretty good job of policing themselves when it comes to the board characters. If the characters go over the line (i.e. personal attacks, etc.), yes - the mods should intervene. But outing board characters for the sake of outing them when most of them bring the funny (not all, but most IMO) is something the mods would be raked over the coals for doing and rightly so.

i have yet to see a board character that isn't egging on some portion of a messageboard. Even someone like "compliment guy" is like "ok, if you say anything positive about anything you are a douche, so heres my mockery". If I was put in a position where i wanted to make this messageboard a better place and a more welcoming place for new fans to hang out, I would out all of them. If the cowardly assholes that create boardcharacters are pissed off, then it would create a healthy purge of them leaving (maybe starting their own messageboard that would fail like the rest of them) and it would make this board a better place

The point is, probably about a dozen people know who are your board characters and who isn't. Styckx just wrote he didnt know there were board characters on here. The vast vast minority know the board characters. And the board characters are created to hide the opinions from the majority. Its the way i see things and will always see things with my opinions of messageboards. Be as defensive as you want of your characters but thats my POV

so, the justification to why board characters are ok really applies to a dozen people. I'm just saying, and this is my opinion, that ronfez.net should be a place that wants to grow. Its the first place a new ron&fez fan will check out and it should make them feel comfortable. The people that are so into this community that they know everything thats going on at any moment, they are already part of it all...no need to worry about them.
