Lately I've been buying the generic Acme brand of Raisin Bran w/Granola & Frosted Mini-Wheats. I can't tell the difference except that they are $2 a box and sometimes $1.50.

What say you? Are you a penny-pincher like my cheap ass?

I'll buy either brand name or generic, depending if I am feeling wealthy or not that day. I do buy a lot of General Mills because they have box tops that we send to school with our son for a Christmas Shop project.

Today, I had a bowl of the generic brand of Honey Nut Cheerios, it just wasn't the same. Otherwise most generics are comparable to the brand name.

ANC- You are not cheap, just frugal.

I buy cereal at walmart cause it is the cheapest there of all places.

We always buy Strawberry Yogurt Burst Cheerios
http://www.foodmall.org/images/cheerios.jpg (used to be 2.50 a box but was just recently increased to 3)
and I also like the maltomeal frosted wheaties

they are around 3 bucks for a fairly large bag

I usually buy some variety of Kashi or Familia Swiss granola. So name brand, I guess.

Most times I buy the wegman's brand rice crispies or chex. But their granola cereals suck so I go name brand for that.

Im a snob. Quaker Steel-cut Oats (rolled oats are for losers). With some milk & blueberries or strawberries, delicious.

are you saying only YOU deserve brand names but the kids can eat the cheap stuff?
If it's good enough for them then it certainly should be good enough for you!

if you shop around, get the sales and use manufacturer's coupons, you can get some pretty good deals on the name brands

that is a silly attitude, especially since many store brands are manufactured by the name brand factories and packaged in no name boxes. You eat what tastes good and is healthy, not because it has a certain name on it.

I don't have any children, so I don't buy cereal.

I eat raw meat for breakfast.

Depends on the cereal.
Golden Grahams have to be name brand. Best cereal in the world, and they have yet to make a generic version that tastes even ok.

But if I'm getting Cheerio's or Mini Wheat's, I'll go generic.

I don't like any cereal so I can careless. The kid on the other hand prefers brand name. She
needs the stupid character on the box. :annoyed:

I have yet to find a generic version of Barbara's Bakery brand Puffins cereal, but I try to only buy it when it's on sale because at $3.50 a box, it's a bit much to spend on something that only one of us eats.

I don't mind most generics anyway, but that's probably because we didn't get sugary cereals when I was little ... and since we were poor, we started to get the generic ones very early.

when you do the math... a box of cereal lasts for at least 4 - 5 breakfasts, at 3.50 a box you are looking at a very cheap breakfast compared to eating on the go or buying other breakfast items.

True, but they're not the only cereal I like, so spending $3.50 for the box when I can get something else that I enjoy for half the price feels irresponsible.

I believe they give a percentage of the profits to help the puffins. I love them, one of my favorite parts of the Bronx Zoo. And it's a very tasty cereal.

Totally. They are my favorites. I can watch penguins and puffins all day. The Bronx Zoo has a penguin named Solo that bites all the other penguins and staff, he's a riot to watch.
