My ears are hurting from listening to this group. Does anyone really like this music? Not my cup of tea but I cant understand why anyone would like this - it is like bad 70's kid show theme music.

Yes.

Quite a bit. If you hear music and think "I dont know how anyone could like this" you have to consider that they are aspiring to a different aesthetic than the music you already like.

She dont use butter
She dont use cheese
She dont use jelly
Or any of these
She uses vaseline

I don't see myself downloading any songs by them based on this. I did like the Nirvana covers. So I don't have a clear answer.

Yes, I really like the Vaselines, but then, I'm smarter and cooler than you are- so don't go by me.

Also, I just love listening to Scots talk. They all sound like Belle and Sebastian to me. So twee!

Plus they have Teenage Fanclub. I think Bis was a trio of Scots, too. Idlewild, Mogwai, Mull Historical Society, Arab Strap, Reindeer Section, Trash Can Sinatras...

Scotland's got that going for them.

I do have to say that being away from the big cities does have a negative impact on the type of music you listen to. Out here in the frontier you do tend to get caught up in mainstream top 40 music land without a lot of diversification and culture the big city scene offers. Until today I had never heard of Vaselines and even though I dont like em - I hope they continue to do well and keep playing.

The Trashcan Sinatras just came out with a new album. You should be able to pre-order it from their website (http://trashcansinatras.com/), which gives you a link to download the album.

What are you talking about? Neither of them sound Scottish, nor are they even in the same movie. Belle is in "Beauty and the Beast" and Sebastian is in "The Little Mermaid."

Smarter and cooler? I don't think so. You need to learn more about movies little missy! :furious:

The Vaselines sounded like a band people would say they liked yet never listened to. Probably downloaded a bunch of their songs and never play them. "Oh Kurt thought they're the greatest" so they get all kinds of fans None of whom ever listen to the music more than once.

Yeah, but you're a creepy dentist.

Amazing logic you have there with a really catchy band with only one album. Yeah, I bet NOBODY is able to force themselves to listen to them.

Funny thing, the latest reissue has been in constant rotation since it came out 3 weeks ago.

The original version has been routinely played ever since it came out.

Sorry, but I don't play that game you described.

I said nothing of the sort.
I said
That to me they sound like the type of band and music that people will say they like because of the pedegree of being Kurt Cobains favorite band or what ever he said. But upon listening dont really go back to much. I have plenty of this type music myself.

Enjoy it, to me it sucked
4 lines repeated 25 times is not great music.

By the way, Nirvana covered "Jesus Don't Want Me For a Sunbeam", not the other way around. It's a parody of a song that the members of the Vaselines remembered singing in church as kids called "I'll Be a Sunbeam", the first line of which is "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam."

well, most of the members of Belle & Sebastian were fans of the Vaselines before they formed Belle & Sebastian.

I saw the Vaselines in San Francisco last week and Stevie and Bobby from Belle & Sebastian were playing as their touring lead guitar and bassist.

Is the reissue remastered? That would be about the only reason for me to pick it up.
supposedly, but I couldn't really tell the difference between it and the older discography album. the new one comes with a 2nd disk of old live and demo tracks, so it's worth it, i guess.

They suck. I fell asleep to this drone singing Scot.

He should try drinking a cup of coffee and climbing out of a coffin and then singing.

When they said no record companies were looking to sign them I was not surprised at all.

I love all the cool kids in here trying to say they loved them for years now, lol.

Why? They were at their "biggest" about 15 years ago. Most people who know of them would have heard them or heard of them back in the 90's.

Ah, but logic would trip up your bit.
