As the kids say it dropped and I copped it. Listened and kinda dug it.
Having only listened to it once, my first impression is it does have a comparable sound to American Idiot (which I really liked) but its a little tighter. I was wondering if anyone else had listened to it and if so what they thought of it.

It's a strong pop record. It SHAMELESSLY borrows from their previous record but, in 10 years... I guess this will just seem like a "phase" of theirs. (kinda like the RUSH albums that seem to fit into similar little groups of three)
Production is snappy and clean, which I love.
Lyrics are rather substantial for a pop album, thankyouverymuch.
I don't think it'll have the legs that AI had but, landmark records like that a few and far between anyway.

I kind of like it more than AI. AI was a time piece about their disgust with Bush. 21CB is more of a distrust with anyone in power. Granted it has similar qualities to the former, but it has a lot of 'older' Green Day sound as well.

I'll have to pick this one up. I always purchase Green Day items, I have since I was in middle school. I probably listened to American Idiot once, but Green Day has brought me so much joy over the years I feel it is no waste of money to support them as artists.

What separates Green Day from the pop-punks that followed them is their knowledge of what came before them. Billie Joe has clearly studied the history of rock 'n' roll, and you can hear elements of Eddie Cochran, Beatles, Who, Kinks, Clash, Replacements, Buzzcocks, Plimsouls, etc.
My only complaint with the new album is that 18 songs may be about four too many. Otherwise, it's every bit as good as AI.

i love this album
i agree with most of the other posters about his being very ai-like, but maybe more thought out
less of a 'lets see if we can do this'
more of a 'lets do what we know how to do well'
i just wonder how well it will sell now that there are fewer rock stations on radio and mtv doesnt play music anymore
listening to music has become a solitary experience

Well, it certainly won't duplicate AI's 9 million, for obvious reasons that have nothing to do with the actual music. Nobody's buying music these days, and downloading is only one of the reasons (despite what the record biz wants you to believe). There's just more entertainment options these days (video games, DVD/bluray, Netflix, Hulu, Pandora/Slacker/Last.FM, etc.) competing for that same amount (or less, thanks to the economy) of everybody's disposable income.

The iTunes bonus tracks are fantastic, particularly the apt remake of "A Quick One".

Responding on his personal blog, artist Sixten spoke about his design for 21st Century Breakdown's artwork. "I actually don't know who they are... they [the couple] were just friends of a friend at a party in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Something like that. I wasn't even there." Instead, the artist explained, a mutual friend snapped a picture of the pair kissing, which then inspired Sixten. "I love their passion, and just had to make a stencil out of it to spread the love," he explained with images of the original picture and his stencil. "I've painted it a bit here and there on my travels over the years...I have so many memories connected to this image and it really means a lot to me. Glad it inspired someone."

There was a concert of there's on Palladium I believe a few weeks ago and it was fucking great. They've improved a million times over since I saw them at Nassau Coliseum about 15 years ago.
I've only gotten half way through, but this album does sound real TIGHT.

I have a couple of songs that I really like off the album.
Altogether though, it's sub par. I think Paulisded had it right. Too many songs.
